Jake Kilrain
John Joseph Killion (February 9, 1859 – December 22, 1937), more commonly known as Jake Kilrain, was a famous American bare-knuckle fighter and glove boxer of the 1880s. Early life Kilrain found employment as a teenager in Somerville, Massachusetts. As a country boy from Long Island, he had to learn how to stand up to the workers in the rolling mills. By the age of 20, he had been recognized as the toughest fighter in the mill. Kilrain was also a champion rower having won the National Amateur Junior Sculling Championship in 1883. He was later stripped of that honor when it was discovered that he was a prizefighter and thus could not be considered an amateur. In 1883, Kilrain took up prizefighting as a profession and quickly established a reputation as a very tough fighter. Kyle Killion (born February 1, 1984) is an American former college football player who was a linebacker for the Indiana Hoosiers. His father J.K. Killion played tight end for the Oklahoma Sooners from 1970 to 1974. Killion grew up in Kingwood, Texas, a suburb of Houston, and played for the Hoosiers from 2002 to 2005. As a freshman in 2002, he started the first three games before sustaining a knee injury, missed four games, and then played the final four games with a large brace on his knee. Ruth Ann Killion (1949–2021) was an American government statistician who worked for the United States Census Bureau. Education and career Killion was born on November 2, 1949, in Springfield, Illinois, where her father was a minister. She was educated at Florida State University, earning a master's degree in statistics there in 1973. She worked for many years in the Census Bureau, and as executive director of the Office for Research, Planning, and Evaluation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. At the Census Bureau, she served as chief of the statistical research division, of the decennial statistical studies division, of the planning, research and evaluation division, and of the demographic statistical methods division. Sarah Killion Woldmoe (born Sarah Christine Killion; July 27, 1992) is an American former professional soccer player who played as a midfielder. Early life Born and raised in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Woldmoe attended Bishop Dwenger High School where she played on the varsity soccer team for four years. Woldmoe was named Gatorade Player of the Year for the state of Indiana three times from 2009 to 2011. In 2010, she was named an ESPN RISE All-American and NSCAA Youth All-American; the latter for the second consecutive year. She was named NSCAA High School All-American in 2009 and 2010. Sean Thomas Killion (born October 24, 1967) is an American former competition swimmer for the University of California at Berkeley, and a 1991 Havana Pan American Games gold medalist, who represented the United States at the 1992 Summer Olympics in the 400 and 1500-meter freestyle. Tom Killion (born 1953) is an American artist, author, African historian and educator. He is internationally known for printmaking linocut, woodcut and letterpress techniques. The subject matter of his artwork is often the landscapes of Northern California. His art studio is in Inverness Ridge, on the Point Reyes Peninsula in Marin County, California. Three of his books were co-authored by the Pulitzer Prize-winning Beat poet Gary Snyder. Killion has taught African history classes at Bowdoin College, University of Asmara and San Francisco State University.
