Kampong
A kampong (this term is in Za'aba Spelling, ''kampung'' in both modern Malay and Indonesian) is a term for a type of village in Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore and a "dock" in Cambodia. The term applies to traditional villages, especially of indigenous peoples. This term has also been used to refer to urban slum areas or enclosed developments and neighborhoods within towns and cities in Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Cambodia, Sri Lanka, and Christmas Island. The design and architecture of traditional ''kampong'' villages have been targeted for reform by urbanists and modernists. These villages have also been adapted by contemporary architects for various projects. The English word " compound," when referring to a development in a town, is thought to be derived from the Malay word . Kampong Bukit
Kampong Bukit is a remote villages of Brunei, village in Tutong District, Brunei, about from the district town Pekan Tutong. The population was 674 in 2016. It is one of the villages within Mukim Ukong, a mukims of Brunei, mukim subdivision in the district. Along the way through the village, there are fruit orchards such as durian, rambutan and so on. It was also seen that some villagers were carrying out the work of planting rice seedlings in a two-acre paddy field allocated to interested villagers. Among the rice that is grown are ''pusu'' rice and ''adan'' rice. Infrastructure Kampong Bukit Primary School is the village primary school. It also shares grounds with Kampong Bukit Religious School, the village school for the country's Education in Brunei, Islamic religious primary education. Kampong Speu Province
Kampong Speu (, ; ) is a province of Cambodia. It borders the provinces of Pursat and Kampong Chhnang to the north, Kandal to the east, Takéo to the southeast, Kampot to the south and Koh Kong to the west. Its capital is the town of Chbar Mon. Etymology ''Kampong Speu'' in Khmer means "starfruit port" or "starfruit harbor". In Khmer, ''kampong'' is a place-name element, meaning "port" or "harbor". It derives from the Austronesian language, Malay, in which it means "village". ''Speu'' in the Khmer language means "starfruit". Sihanoukville (city)
Sihanoukville (, ), also known as Kampong Saom (, ) or Preah Sihanouk (, ), is a coastal city in Cambodia and the capital of Preah Sihanouk Province, at the tip of an elevated peninsula in the country's south-west on the Gulf of Thailand. The city has a string of beaches along its coastline and coastal marshlands bordering Ream National Park in the east. It has one navigable river, the mangrove-lined Ou Trojak Jet, running from Otres Pagoda to the sea at Otres. Several sparsely inhabited islands under Sihanoukville's administration are near the city. Kampong Glam ( ; Malay language, Malay: Kampung Gelam; Jawi alphabet, Jawi: کامڤوڠ ڬلم ; ; Tamil language, Tamil: கம்போங் கிளாம்) is a neighbourhood and ethnic enclave in Singapore. It is located north of the Singapore River, in the Planning Areas of Singapore, planning area of Rochor, known as the Malay-Muslim quarter. The Kampong is open by advance reservation to visitors Tuesday through Friday and is a botanical garden in the Coconut Grove neighborhood of Miami, Florida, United States. History The Kampong was bought as a winter home by the famed horticulturalist David Fairchild and his wife Marian in 1916. For many years he managed the Department of Plant Introduction program of the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Washington, D.C., searching the world for plants that could be useful and successfully introduced into the United States. Fairchild introduced around 30,000 plant species and varietals into the U.S. At his home in Florida, Fairchild created a garden that contained many of the plants that he obtained throughout his trips. Flying Fish Cove
Flying Fish Cove ( zh, 飞鱼湾, ) is the capital city and main settlement of Christmas Island. Although it was originally named after the British survey-ship ''HMS Flying Fish (1873), Flying-Fish'', many maps simply label it "The Settlement". It was the first British settlement on the island, established in 1888. About a third of the territory's total population of 1,600 lives in Flying Fish Cove, which lies near the north-eastern tip of the island. There is a small harbour which serves tourists with yachts. Slave Island, officially known as Kompagngna Veediya (; ), also known as Kampong Kertel and Kompanna Veediya and formerly known as Javanam Quarters (Javanese Quarter) during Dutch rule, is a suburb in Colombo, Sri Lanka, located directly south of the Fort.
