Island
An island or isle is a piece of land, distinct from a continent, completely surrounded by water. There are continental islands, which were formed by being split from a continent by plate tectonics, and oceanic islands, which have never been part of a continent. Oceanic islands can be formed from volcano, volcanic activity, grow into atolls from coral reefs, and form from sediment along shorelines, creating barrier islands. River islands can also form from sediment and debris in rivers. Artificial islands are those made by humans, including small rocky outcroppings built out of lagoons and large-scale land reclamation projects used for development. Islands are host to diverse plant and animal life. Oceanic islands have the sea as a natural barrier to the introduction of new species, causing the species that do reach the island to evolve in isolation. Arøya
Arøya is a group of three small islands in Larvik Municipality in Vestfold county, Norway. They are located in the outer part of the Langesundsfjorden approximately midway between the town of Langesund (in Bamble Municipality in Telemark) and the village of Helgeroa in Larvik. The three islands are named Store Arøya, Lille Arøya, and Vesle Arøya ('Big', 'Small' and 'Tiny' Arøya). The islands of Arøya are a recreational cottage area for the population in the Grenland, Vestfold, and even as far away as Oslo Oslo ( or ; ) is the capital and most populous city of Norway. Barmøya
Barmøya or Barmen is a small island in Stad Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The island lies just off the mainland between the Stad peninsula and the island of Vågsøy. Most of the island's 50 or so residents live on the southern shore in a small village that is known as Barmen. There is a small car ferry that runs from Barmen to the mainland to the south. Barmen is an island in Risør municipality in Agder county, Norway Norway, officially the Kingdom of Norway, is a Nordic countries, Nordic country located on the Scandinavian Peninsula in Northern Europe. Bremanger is a municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The village of Svelgen is the administrative centre of the municipality. Other villages include Bremanger, Berle, Davik, Isane, Kalvåg, Svelgen, Rugsund, and Ålfoten. Bremanger is the only municipality in Vestland, which is located in two districts. The northern and eastern parts comprising the villages of Oldeide, Berle, Rugsund, Davik, Isane, and Ålfoten is located in the Nordfjord region, while the villages of Bremanger, Kalvåg, Svelgen, Sørgulen, and Botnane are located in the Sunnfjord region. Averøya
Averøya is an island in Averøy Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. It is located north of the Romsdal peninsula surrounded by the Kornstadfjorden on the west and the Kvernesfjorden on the south and east, and the Bremsnesfjorden on the northeast. The main villages on the island include Bruhagen, Kvernes, Kornstad, Kårvåg, Langøyneset, and Bremsnes. The island has a population (2023) of 5,872. The island is connected to the mainland by the Atlanterhavsveien road, and it is connected to Kristiansund via the Atlantic Ocean Tunnel. Austvågøya
Austvågøya is the northeasternmost and largest of the larger islands in the Lofoten archipelago in Nordland county, Norway. It is located between the Vestfjorden and the Norwegian Sea. The island of Vestvågøya lies to the southwest and the large island of Hinnøya to the northeast. In 2017, the island had about 9,000 residents. Most of the island is part of Vågan Municipality, while the northeastern part belongs to Hadsel Municipality. The main town on the island is Svolvær. Austvågøya is popular among mountain climbers. The famous Trollfjord is located in the eastern part of the island. Aspøya, Ålesund
Aspøya is an island in Ålesund Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. The island is one of the islands on which the city of Ålesund is built. The other islands are Hessa (to the west) and Nørve (to the east). Aspøya is the location of the 1904 Ålesund Fire. The small island has some residential development around Ålesund Church. Other than that, most of the island is made up of industrial and commercial developments. The western terminus of the European route E136 highway is on the island of Aspøya. Aspøya, Tingvoll
Aspøya is an artificial island in Tingvoll Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. It is located between the Freifjorden and the Tingvollfjorden. The European route E39 highway crosses Aspøya and connects it to the nearby island of Bergsøya to the west by the Bergsøysund Bridge–part of the Krifast bridge and tunnel system which connects the town of Kristansund to the mainland. To the east, the E39 highway connects it to the Straumsnes peninsula in Tingvoll. The highest point on the island is the mountain ''Vettafjellet''. The artificial island was once a peninsula that was connected to the mainland by the narrow, wide Nålsundeidet isthmus. In 1905, the isthmus was excavated to provide an wide canal through which boats can travel. The completion of the canal, therefore, made Aspøya into an island.
