It is a part of the Saxifrage family. Characteristics American alumroot has lobed semi-palmate green, purple, or brown leaves that may or may not be veined or marbled. Biography Born in Vienna, his family moved to Wittenberg when he was twelve. He studied philosophy first, then medicine at the Universities of University of Wittenberg, Wittenberg, University of Leipzig, Leipzig and University of Jena, Jena.
