Helium-strong Star
Helium-weak stars are chemically peculiar stars which have a weak helium lines for their spectral type. Their helium lines place them in a later (i.e. cooler) spectral type than their hydrogen lines. Helium-weak star Helium-weak stars are mid-to-late B-class stars with weaker than normal spectral lines of neutral helium, compared to normal stars with similar hydrogen line strengths. These are considered to be an extension of the Ap/Bp chemically-peculiar stars with slightly hotter temperatures. They often show similar increased abundances of heavy elements. The mechanism of atmospheric stratification of elements is though to be responsible for both types of chemical peculiarity. This is a non-extensive list of helium-weak stars. In astrophysics, chemically peculiar stars (CP stars) are stars with distinctly unusual Metallicity, metal abundances, at least in their surface layers. Classification Chemically peculiar stars are common among hot main-sequence (hydrogen-burning) stars. These hot peculiar stars have been divided into four main classes on the basis of their spectra, although two classification systems are sometimes used: * non-magnetic metallic-lined star, metallic-lined (Am, CP1) * Ap and Bp stars, magnetic (Ap, CP2) * non-magnetic mercury-manganese star, mercury-manganese (HgMn, CP3) * Helium-weak star, helium-weak (He-weak, CP4). HD 28843
HD 28843, also known as HR 1441 and DZ Eridani, is a star about 550 light years from the Earth, in the constellation Eridanus. It is a 5th magnitude star, so it will be faintly visible to the naked eye of an observer far from city lights. It is a variable star, whose brightness varies slightly from 5.70 to 5.84 during its 1.374 day rotation period. It is a member of the μ Tauri Association, a group of young stars within the larger Cassiopeia-Taurus Structure. V761 Centauri
HD 125823, also known as V761 Centauri or a Centauri, is a variable star in the constellation Centaurus. It is a blue-white star that is visible to the naked eye with a mean apparent visual magnitude of +4.41. The distance to this star is approximately 460 light years based on parallax measurements. It is a member of the Upper Centaurus–Lupus subgroup of the Scorpius–Centaurus association. In 1965, W. P. Bidelman discovered that the intensities of the star's neutral helium lines had varied on photographic plates taken over the period 1908 to 1911. This variation was confirmed by A. D. V2052 Ophiuchi, also known as HR 6684, is a star about 920 light years from Earth in the constellation Ophiuchus. It is a 5th-magnitude star, making it faintly visible to the naked eye of an observer far from city lights. V2052 Ophiuchi is a Beta Cephei variable (β Cep) star, varying slightly in brightness from magnitude 5.81 to 5.84 over a period of about 3.4 hours. In 1972, Mikolaj Jerzykiewicz announced that HR 6684 is a variable star, based on his observations using the 0.6 meter Air Force Telescope on Mauna Kea. Sigma Lupi
Sigma Lupi, Latinized from σ Lupi, is a star in the southern constellation of Lupus. It is visible to the naked eye with an apparent visual magnitude of 4.4. Based upon an annual parallax shift of 5.67 mas as seen from Earth, it is located about 580 light years from the Sun. It is a member of the Upper Centaurus–Lupus subgroup of the nearby Sco OB2 association. D. vander Linden and Christiaan L. Sterken discovered that the star is a variable star, based on data obtained in 1984, and announced their discovery in 1987. HD 144941 is a massive helium-strong star in the southern constellation of Scorpius. With an apparent visual magnitude of 10.1, it requires a telescope to view. Based on parallax measurements, it is located at a distance of approximately 4,900 light years from the Sun. The star is drifting closer with a radial velocity of −44 km/s.
