Haydar (), also spelt Hajdar, Hayder, Heidar, Haider, Heydar, Hyder, and other variants, is an Arabic male given name, also used as a surname, meaning "lion". In Islamic tradition, the name is primarily associated with Ali ibn Abi Talib (first Shia Imam and fourth Rashidun Caliph), the son-in-law and cousin of Muhammad, who was nicknamed "Haydar". Darren J. Haydar (born October 22, 1979) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey winger. Haydar was selected by the Nashville Predators in the ninth round (248th overall) of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft. He is one of the top AHL players of all-time, having won two Calder Cup championships and is the AHL’s all-time leader in playoff goals (63), assists (80) and points (143). Despite his prowess in the AHL, Haydar played little in the NHL, scoring only a single goal and eight points over 23 games. Playing career Prior to turning professional Haydar played two years with the Milton Merchants of the Junior A Ontario Provincial Hockey League, where he established league records for goals (71) and points (140) in a season. Haydar Khan Amo-oghli Tariverdi (; December 20, 1880 – October 15, 1921) was an Iranian left-wing revolutionary, key figure during the Persian Constitutional Revolution and among the founders of the Communist Party of Persia. Early years A member of the Iranian Tariverdiev family, Haydar was the son of a certain Ali-Akbar. He was generally referred to as "Amo-oghli", a nickname he later in his life received by the workers in Baku. It is uncertain where he was born. Some sources consider Urmia in northwestern Iran to have been his birthplace, while the Iranian historian Abdul-Hadi Hairi consider him to have been born in Russian Armenia. Nūr al-Hudā Abū'l-Karāmāt as-Saʿīdī al-Ḥusaynī (), better known as Ḥaydar Ghāzī (, ), was the second vizier, wazir of Sylhet region, Srihat (Sylhet) under the various Sultans of Sonargaon and Gauda (city), Lakhnauti. Prior to this, Ghazi took part in the Conquest of Gour in 1303. Haydar Al-Sadr
Ayatollah Haydar al-Sadr (; 1891–1937) was born in Samarra, Iraq. His father, Ismail as-Sadr (d. 1920) was a Grand Ayatollah and the first to be use the as- Sadr surname, which came to be associated with a long line of religious scholarship within Shia Islam. Haydar and the as-Sadr family are also considered as Sayyid, or those who can trace their lineage back to Muhammad (d. 632). Haydar Ergülen (born 14 October 1956, in Eskişehir, Turkey) is a Turkish poet., he graduated from the Sociology Department at Orta Doğu Teknik Üniversitesi (Middle East Technical University) in Ankara. Haydar Çetinkaya (born 1976) is a Turkish para-Nordic skier, who competes in the LW2 disability class. He is Turkey's first international para-Nordic skier. Haydar Aşan (16 April 1906 – 29 February 1996) was a Turkish-American Olympic sprinter. He competed in the men's 4 × 100 metres relay at the 1928 Summer Olympics. He also competed as a high jumper, pole vaulter, and professional football player. As a teenager he competed in local athletic championships and began amateur boxing. In 1924, at age 18 he joined the professional Fenerbahçe football team, a year later he changed to the Galatasaray football team and stayed there for ten years. Mohammed Haydar Zammar ( ''Muḥammad Ḥaydar Zammār'') (born 1961) is a Syrian-German militant who served as an important al-Qaida recruiter, and is currently a member of the Islamic State.
