Guaiene
Guaienes are a series of closely related natural chemical compounds that have been isolated from a variety of plant sources. The guaienes are sesquiterpenes with the molecular formula C15H24. α-Guaiene is the most common and was first isolated from Oil of guaiac, guaiac wood oil from ''Bulnesia sarmientoi''. The guaienes are used in the fragrance and flavoring industries to impart earthy, spicy aromas and tastes.Guaiene

Oil Of Guaiac
Oil of guaiac is a fragrance ingredient used in soap and perfumery. Despite its name it does not come from the '' Guaiacum'' tree, but from the palo santo tree (''Bulnesia sarmientoi''). Oil of guaiac is produced through steam distillation of a mixture of wood and sawdust from palo santo. It is sometimes incorrectly called guaiac wood concrete. It is a yellow to greenish yellow semi-solid mass which melts around 40–50 °C. Once melted, it can be cooled back to room temperature yet remain liquid for a long time. Oil of guaiac has a soft roselike odour, similar to the odour of hybrid tea roses or violets. Because of this similarity, it has sometimes been used as an adulterant for rose oil. Oil of guaiac is primarily composed of 42–72% guaiol, bulnesol, δ- bulnesene, β- bulnesene, α- guaiene, guaioxide and β- patchoulene. It is considered non-irritating, non-sensitizing, and non- phototoxic to human skin. Oil of guaiac was also a pre-Renaissance remedy to syphi ...

Sesquiterpene
Sesquiterpenes are a class of terpenes that consist of three isoprene units and often have the molecular formula C15H24. Like monoterpenes, sesquiterpenes may be cyclic or contain rings, including many combinations. Biochemical modifications such as oxidation or rearrangement produce the related sesquiterpenoids. It is estimated (2006) that 3000 sesquiterpenes have been identified. Biosynthesis and examples The reaction of geranyl pyrophosphate with isopentenyl pyrophosphate results in the 15-carbon farnesyl pyrophosphate (FPP), which is an intermediate in the biosynthesis of sesquiterpenes such as farnesene. Cyclic sesquiterpenes are more common than cyclic monoterpenes because of the increased chain length and additional double bond in the sesquiterpene precursors. In addition to common six-membered ring systems such as the ones found in zingiberene and bisacurone, cyclization of one end of the chain to the other end can lead to macrocyclic rings such as humulene. ...

Bulnesia Sarmientoi
''Bulnesia'' is a genus of flowering plants in the caltrop family, Zygophyllaceae. Species in this genus are all native to South America. The wood of some – particularly '' B. arborea'' and '' B. sarmientoi'' – is traded as verawood (colloquially "vera") or ''"lignum vitae"''. They are close relatives of the "true" ''lignum vitae'' trees of genus ''Guaiacum''. Guaiol
Guaiol or champacol is an organic compound, a sesquiterpene, sesquiterpenoid alcohol (chemistry), alcohol found in several plants, especially in the oil of guaiacum and cypress pine. The Merriam-Webster Dictionary. It is a crystalline solid that melts at 92 °celsius, C.Wolfram Alpha ''Guaiol'' Guaiol is one of many terpenes found in Cannabis and it has been associated with decreasing anxiolytic activity. Reactions Guaiol yields a deep purple color when treated with electrophile, electrophilic bromine reagents. Upon heating with sulfur, guaiazulene can yield.
