Grinding (dance)
Grinding, also known as juking, freak dancing or freaking (in the Caribbean, wining) is an intimate and romantic close partner dance where two or more dancers rub or bump their bodies against each other, usually with a female dancer rubbing or bumping her buttocks against a male dancer's groin. The male dancer will typically place his hands on the female dancer's hips or waist. Grinding gained widespread popularity as a hip hop dance in night clubs, and eventually became popular at high school dances and proms in the US and Canada where it has garnered controversy and has resulted in attempted bans.Ordway, Renee"A grinding halt for Bangor High School dances?" ''Bangor Daily News'' (January 12, 2010). Accessed: July 2, 2011 A more graphic version called daggering involves a man slamming his genital area into a woman's buttocks. Hip Hop Dance
Hip hop dance is a range of street dance styles primarily performed to hip hop music or that have evolved as part of hip hop culture. It is influenced by a wide range of styles that were created in the 1970s and made popular by dance crews in the United States. The television show '' Soul Train'' and the 1980s films ''Breakin''', '' Beat Street'', and '' Wild Style'' showcased these crews and dance styles in their early stages; therefore, giving hip-hop dance mainstream exposure. The dance industry responded with a commercial, studio-based version of hip-hop—sometimes called "new style"—and a hip-hop influenced style of jazz dance called "jazz-funk". Classically trained dancers developed these studio styles in order to create choreography from the hip-hop dances that were performed on the street. Because of this development, hip-hop dance is practiced in both dance studios and outdoor spaces. The commercialization of hip-hop dance continued into the 1990s and 2000s with t ...

Daggering
Daggering is a form of dance originating from Jamaica. The dance incorporates the male dancer ramming his crotch area into the female dancer's buttocks, and other forms of frantic movement. Daggering is not a traditional dance; it is of recent origin, associated with the 2006 wave of dancehall music. History The activity of "daggering" has been present in Jamaica's dancehalls for many years, but only recently has the term "daggering" been used as a description. Some argue that it is roughly the equivalent of the Caribbean’s "cabin stabbing", another style of music and dance. ''Mojo'' magazine journalist and reggae historian David Katz attributes the recent popularity of daggering to a series of dancehall music videos and artists that promoted the style. YouTube videos of people performing daggering have spread the trend worldwide. Daggering music Daggering is performed with dancehall music, although some artists have specifically created "daggering" music: * Aidonia * Dex ...
