Gilt-head Bream
The gilt-head bream (''Sparus aurata''), also known as the gilthead, dourade, gilt-head seabream or silver seabream, is a species of marine Actinopterygii, ray-finned fish belonging to the Family (biology), family Sparidae, the seabreams or porgies. This fish is found in the Eastern Atlantic and the Mediterranean. It is a highly esteemed food fish and an important species in aquaculture. The operculum is a series of bones found in bony fish and chimaeras that serves as a facial support structure and a protective covering for the gills; it is also used for respiration and feeding.
