Games Played
Games played (GP) is a statistic used in team sports to indicate the total number of games in which a player has participated (in any capacity); the statistic is generally applied irrespective of whatever portion of the game is contested. Association football In association football, a game played is counted if a player is in the starting 11, or if a reserve player enters the game before full-time. Baseball In baseball, the statistic applies to players, who prior to a game, are included on a starting lineup card or are announced as an ''ex ante'' substitute, whether or not they play. A statistic (singular) or sample statistic is any quantity computed from values in a sample which is considered for a statistical purpose. Statistical purposes include estimating a population parameter, describing a sample, or evaluating a hypothesis. The average (or mean) of sample values is a statistic. The term statistic is used both for the function (e.g., a calculation method of the average) and for the value of the function on a given sample (e.g., the result of the average calculation). Larry Yount
Lawrence King Yount (born February 15, 1950) is an American former professional baseball player. Yount is the only pitcher in Major League Baseball (MLB) history to be credited with one pitching appearance without facing a batter. In his only major league appearance, on September 15, 1971, he left the game during his warm-up pitches due to injury. He is the older brother of Hall of Famer Robin Yount. Early career Yount went to Taft High School in Woodland Hills, California, and was a fifth round draft pick in the 1968 Major League Baseball Draft. He was impressed in the Carolina League in both 1968 and 1969 (he had a 2.25 ERA in 1969), and he was invited to spring training at the major league camp in 1970 and 1971. Major League Baseball Consecutive Games Played Streaks
To compile a streak of consecutive games in Major League Baseball, a player must appear in every game played by his team. The streak is broken if the team completes a game in which the player neither takes a turn at bat nor plays a half-inning in the field. The record—2,632 consecutive games, a streak compiled over more than 16 years—is held by Cal Ripken Jr. of the Baltimore Orioles, and is considered to be one of the league's unbreakable records. Ripken surpassed Lou Gehrig of the New York Yankees, whose record of 2,130 consecutive games had stood for 56 years. Before Gehrig, the record was held by Everett Scott (1,307 consecutive games), a shortstop with the Red Sox and Yankees whose streak ended in 1925, less than a month before Gehrig's began. Robert Lee Parish (born August 30, 1953) is an American former professional basketball player. A 7'1" Center (basketball), center, nicknamed "the Chief", Parish played for four teams in the National Basketball Association (NBA) from 1976 to 1997. During his 14-year tenure with the Boston Celtics, Parish teamed with Hall-of-Fame forwards Larry Bird and Kevin McHale (basketball), Kevin McHale to form one of the greatest front lines in NBA history.
