Futsal In The United States
Along with soccer, the sport of futsal in the United States is a rapidly-growing phenomenon. There is currently only the National Futsal Premier League as professional futsal league in the United States, although many regions have their own leagues. Futsal Across America has created developmental Futsal programs for schools, clubs and communities. The national team has placed runner-up in 1992 and third place in 1989 at the FIFA Futsal World Cup. United States National Futsal Team
The United States national futsal team represents the United States at international futsal competitions. It is governed by the United States Soccer Federation and the U.S. Soccer, affiliated with CONCACAF. The U.S. Futsal Federation was founded in 1981 and the first international futsal match played by the U.S. National Futsal Team was in May 1984 in Nanaimo, Canada where the United States won, 6–5. The first international futsal match in the United States was held in December, 1985, at Sonoma State University in Rohnert Park, California. The U.S. select team, defeated Australia, 9–5. The U.S. golden age of futsal was in the late 1980s and early 1990s when the team achieved third-place at 1989 FIFA Futsal World Championship and runner-up at 1992 FIFA Futsal World Championship. The 1989 FIFA Futsal World Championship was the first FIFA Futsal World Championship, the quadrennial international futsal championship contested by the men's national teams of the member associations of FIFA. It was held between 5 and 15 January 1989 in the Netherlands. It was the first non-Olympic FIFA tournament held in the country. Brazil won the tournament. AMF Futsal World Cup
The AMF Futsal World Championships (previously called the FIFUSA Futsal World Championships) is the international championships for futsal, the indoor version of football organized by FIFUSA (1971–2002) and AMF (2003–present). The world championship tournament was held every three years until 2003, and is now played every four years. The first event was held in 1982 in Brazil. The South American teams have won the majority of the championships, with Paraguay as the most successful team winning 4 titles. Portugal is the sole team beyond South America to have won a championship, winning the 1991 edition. Since 2008, a women's tournament is also held. United States Women's National Futsal Team
The United States women's national futsal team represents the United States in international competitions. It is sanctioned by the United States Soccer Federation, affiliated with CONCACAF. History The United States Soccer Federation established the first official women's national futsal team under it Extended National Teams department in March 2023. It appointed Márcia Taffarel as its first coach. She created the first pool for the team in March 2023. She held full national team training camps in 2024 and 2025. Prior to the foundation of US Soccer's team, there was a United States women's national team which took part at the AMF Futsal World Cup. The CONCACAF Futsal Club Championship is the North American futsal club competition hosted by CONCACAF. History and format The inaugural CONCACAF Futsal Club Championship was played from August 20 to 24, 2014, at the Domo Polideportivo de la CDAG at Guatemala City, Guatemala. A total of six teams participated: Glucosoral (Guatemala), Habana (Cuba), U.E.S. (El Salvador), Borussia (Costa Rica), Sidekicks (Mexico), and Futsal Club Toronto (Canada). The six teams were divided into two groups of three, playing a round-robin format during the opening round of the tournament. The CONCACAF Futsal Championship is the main national futsal competition of the CONCACAF nations. It was first held in 1996, and it is held every four years. Results Overall team records In this ranking, 3 points are awarded for a win, 1 for a draw, and 0 for a loss.
