Formannskapsdistrikt
() was the name of a Norwegian self-governing municipality. The name was used from the establishment these municipalities in 1838 until the name fell out of use in 1863. The municipalities had their legal basis from two laws enacted on 14 January 1837. The laws established two types of ; one for cities () and one for rural districts (). These districts were mostly based on the former parishes. City municipalities had a monopoly on trade in both the municiality and for surrounding districts. Each district was to elect two councils that governed the municipality. The upper council was called and the lower council was called . The chariman of this council also represented the municipality at the county level. The destinction between cities and rural districts existed until it was gradually replaced by 1995. is still used as name of the most important council in Norwegian municipalities. Askim Municipality
Askim () is a town and a former municipality in (from January 1, 2020) Indre Østfold municipality in the county of Østfold, Norway. The administrative centre of the Askim municipality was the town of Askim. Askim was established as a municipality on 1 January 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt). Rødenes is a former municipality in the former Østfold county, Norway. The parish of ''Rødenæs'' was established as a municipality January 1, 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt). The district of Rømskog was separated from Rødenes as a municipality of its own January 1, 1902. The split left Rødenes with a population of 1,378. Rødenes was merged with Øymark to form the new municipality Marker January 1, 1964. Before the merger Rødenes had a population of 1,314. Rakkestad is a municipality in Østfold county, Norway. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Rakkestad. It is divided into the parishes of Rakkestad, Degernes, and Os. Onsøy Municipality
Onsøy is a peninsula and a former municipality in Østfold county, Norway. The administrative centre was Gressvik. History The parish of ''Onsø'' was established as a municipality January 1, 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt). A part of Onsøy with 170 inhabitants was moved to the neighboring municipality Fredrikstad on 1 January 1968. On 1 January 1994 the rest of Onsøy was incorporated into Fredrikstad. Jeløy (until 1920 named ''Moss herred'' - ''Moss rural district'') was a former municipality in Østfold county, Norway. Jeløy was established as a municipality January 1, 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt). It was merged with the urban municipality of Moss on July 1, 1943. Idd Municipality
Idd is a parish and former municipality in Halden, Østfold county, Norway. The parish of ''Id'' was established as a municipality January 1, 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt). The rural municipality was (together with Berg) merged with the city of Halden January 1, 1967. Prior to the merger Idd had a population of 7,213. The municipality (originally the parish) is probably named after an old name of the vicarage. The meaning of the name is, however, unknown. Until 1918 the name was written ''Id''. Hvaler is a municipality that is a group of islands in the southern part of Østfold County, Norway. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Skjærhalden, on the island of Kirkeøy. The only police station in the municipality is located in Skjærhalden. Hobøl Municipality
Hobøl was a municipality in Østfold county, Norway. The administrative centre of the municipality was the village of Elvestad. Hobøl is situated about southeast of Oslo. The parish of ''Haabøl'' was established as a municipality on 1 January 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt). The largest village in Hobøl was Tomter, whose railway station is served by Eastern Østfold Line. Other villages in the municipality were Knapstad, Ringvoll, and the middle part of the municipality which is called Hobøl.
