Finvenkism
Finvenkismo () is an ideological current within the Esperanto movement. The name is derived from the concept of a ''fina venko'' ("final victory"), denoting the moment when Esperanto will be used as the predominant second language throughout the world. A finvenkist is thus someone who hopes for or works towards this "final victory" of Esperanto. According to some finvenkists, this "final victory" of Esperanto may help eradicate war, chauvinism, and cultural oppression. The exact nature of this adoption (e.g., individual vs state adoption), and what would constitute a "final victory" is often left unspecified. Recently, some Esperantists have campaigned for the expression ''fina venko'' to be replaced with ''fina sukceso'' ("final success") because the former reminds some people of war due to its similarity to the German word ''Endsieg''. Change From Above
In linguistics, change from above refers to conscious change to a language. That is, speakers are generally aware of the linguistic change and use it to sound more dominant, as a result of social pressure. It stands in contrast to change from below. Change from above usually enters the speech of educated people, not the vernacular dialects. This change usually begins with speakers in higher social classes and diffuses down into the lower classes. Upper classes use these new linguistic forms to differentiate themselves from the lower classes, while lower classes use these forms to sound more educated and similar to the upper class. However, the concepts of change from above and below refer to consciousness and not social class. Language ideology (also known as linguistic ideology) is, within anthropology (especially linguistic anthropology), sociolinguistics, and cross-cultural studies, any set of beliefs about languages as they are used in their social worlds. Language ideologies are conceptualizations about languages, speakers, and discursive practices. Mark Fettes
Mark Fettes is an Esperantist and university professor of education, and former President of the World Esperanto Association, known by its Esperanto initials as UEA. Career in Esperantujo Fettes worked from October 1986 until January 1992 in the UEA central office as editor of the monthly magazine ''Esperanto''. In this period he also re-established the UEA's public relations section; he has become known as a speaker and organizer. International Youth Congress
The International Youth Congress (, IJK) is the largest annual meeting of young Esperantists in the world. The participants come from all over the world for one week, and they usually number around 300, although there has been a congress with more than 1000 attendees before.
