Four figure skating events were contested at the 1908 Summer Olympics in London, but they were held in October 1908, six months after most of the other Olympic events at the 1908 Summer Olympics, 1908 Games. The figure skating competition took place at the Prince's Skating Club, in the district of Knightsbridge. It was the first time that a winter sport had ever been included in the Olympic Games, sixteen years before the 1924 Winter Olympics, first Winter Olympics in Chamonix. Prince's Skating Club
Prince's Skating Club was an ice rink in the Knightsbridge area of London, England. It saw a number of firsts for ice hockey in Britain and Europe. The rink was opened on Montpelier Square on 7 November 1896 by the Prince's Sporting Club. Elsa Rendschmidt
Elsa Rendschmidt (11 January 1886 – 9 October 1969) was a German figure skater and the first German woman to compete and win a medal at the Olympic Games. Rendschmidt won the silver medal at the 1908 Summer Olympics, the first Olympics to include a ladies' figure skating event. She competed in the first ladies' German nationals, which took place in 1911. She skated for the Berliner Schlittschuhclub and won the event, becoming Germany's first ladies' champion. The LA84 Foundation (known until June 2007 as the Amateur Athletic Foundation of Los Angeles) is a private, nonprofit institution created by the Los Angeles Olympic Organizing Committee to manage Southern California's endowment from the 1984 Olympic Games. Under an agreement made in 1979, 40 percent of any surplus was to stay in Southern California, with the other 60 percent going to the United States Olympic Committee.
