Electro Rap
Hip house, also known as rap house or house rap, is a musical genre that mixes elements of house music and hip-hop, which originated in both London and Chicago in the mid-to-late 1980s. A British collaboration between the electronic group Beatmasters and the rap duo Cookie Crew created "Rok da House"; possibly the first hip house single. History Minor controversy ensued in 1988 when a U.S. record called "Turn Up the Bass" by Tyree Cooper featuring Kool Rock Steady claimed it was the "first hip house record on vinyl". The Beatmasters disputed this, pointing out that "Rok da House" had originally been written and pressed to vinyl in 1986. The outfit then released "Who's in the House?" featuring British emcee Merlin, containing the lines "Beatmasters stand to attention, hip house is your invention" and "Watch out Tyree, we come faster". House Music
House is a genre of electronic dance music characterized by a repetitive Four on the floor (music), four-on-the-floor beat and a typical tempo of 115–130 beats per minute. It was created by DJs and music producers from Chicago's underground Clubbing (subculture), club culture and evolved slowly in the early/mid 1980s as DJs began altering disco songs to give them a more mechanical beat. Fast Eddie (producer)
Edwin A. Smith, known as Fast Eddie, is an American house producer and hip hop musician from Chicago, Illinois. Career Fast Eddie began as a DJ of the early Chicago house movement, including playing spots on WGCI-FM and WBMX. During that period, he produced one of his first singles in collaboration with Kenny "Jammin'" Jason entitled "Can You Dance", circa 1986. In 1987, Eddie came out with other house tracks such as "The Whop", based on the dance of the same name. Eddie left WGCI for WBMX for a short time and then quit his radio DJ gigs to concentrate on producing. In 1988, he scored one of his biggest hits with "Acid Thunder" on DJ International Records. However, it was the track "Hip House" that established his career as a producer. Eddie popularized the genre of hip house. C+C Music Factory was an American musical group formed in 1989 by David Cole and Robert Clivillés. The group is best known for their five hit singles: " Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)", " Here We Go (Let's Rock & Roll)", " Things That Make You Go Hmmm...", " Just a Touch of Love", and "Keep It Comin'". The band stopped recording in 1996, following Cole's death. In 2010, C+C Music Factory reformed with Eric Kupper replacing Cole. Mark Chadwick (born 28 November 1969), better known by his stage name Chad Jackson, is an English DJ, remixer and record producer. He is best known for his hit single " Hear the Drummer (Get Wicked)", but he also created member-only mixes for the Disco Mix Club (DMC). Music career Jackson was born in St Helens, Merseyside, England. He won the DMC World Championships competition in 1987. His career started in 1990 with his debut single " Hear the Drummer (Get Wicked)", which consisted of samples. It was a hit, peaking at number 1 on the UK Dance Chart and number 3 on the UK Singles Chart. The track was based around a horn sample from Marva Whitney's 1969 single "Unwind Yourself" and also sampled the 1973 song " For the Love of Money" recorded by The O'Jays. Telstar Records
Telstar Records was a British record label that operated from 1982 to 2004. Background Telstar Records was founded in 1982 by Sean O'Brien and Neil Palmer with a government loan of £120,000. It was launched as a specialist compilation marketing label and had hits with a range of compilation franchises such as the Deep Heat, Kaos Theory and 100% ranges. As well as these brands, the company licensed a number of major artist recordings (for example ABBA and the Four Tops) to release telemarketed compilations. In the mid-1990s, it diversified its output into the singles market and long-term artist development. MARRS (stylised M, A, R, R, S) were a 1987 recording collective formed by the groups A.R. Kane and Colourbox, which only released one commercial disc. It became "a one-hit wonder of rare influence" because of their international hit "Pump Up the Volume (song), Pump Up the Volume", which was their only single. History MARRS started in 1987 as an intended collaboration between the groups A.R. Kane and Colourbox, with additional input from DJs C.J. Mackintosh, Chris "C.J." Mackintosh and Dave Dorrell. Bomb The Bass
Bomb the Bass is an electronic music alias of English musician and producer Timothy Simenon (born June 1967). As a name, Bomb the Bass came from Simenon's approach to collaging and mixing sounds whilst DJing in the mid- to late 1980s; he says "samples were either scratched in live or sampled and looped on top of the rhythm section. So the concept was one of bombing the bass line with different ideas, with a collage of sounds. Bombing was a graffiti term for writing, like people would 'bomb' trains or whatever." S-Express
S'Express (pronounced ''ess-express''; sometimes spelled S'Xpress or S-Express) was a British dance music act from the late 1980s, who had one of the earliest commercial successes in the acid house genre. " Theme from S'Express", which contained elements from Rose Royce's " Is It Love You're After", was one of the earliest recordings to capitalize on the emergence of sampling culture. Doug Lazy (real name Gene Douglas Finley) is an American hip hop and dance music producer and DJ from Washington, D.C. Lazy scored a number of hip house hits in the late 1980s and early 1990s on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart, including three #1s: " Let It Roll", "Let the Rhythm Pump", and "H.O.U.S.E.". Deskee is the stage name for Derrick Crumpley, a German-American house music artist. Biography Early life He moved to Germany in 1984 with his mother, who was a member of the Armed Forces. Musical career Deskee became the main DJ for the road show called The Body Snatchers Road Show (members: Tillman, Williams, and Crumpley), and they played in several night clubs throughout Germany.
