Electoral District Of Stafford
Stafford is a Legislative Assembly of Queensland electoral district in the state of Queensland, Australia. It is located in the inner northern residential suburbs of Brisbane. Suburbs in the current electorate include Stafford, Gordon Park, Grange, Kedron, Stafford Heights, and parts of Chermside, Chermside West, McDowall, Alderley, Wilston, Newmarket and Windsor. The Electorate includes the Prince Charles Hospital. Stafford was first formed in 1972, when it was won by Labor's Roy Harvey. This changed in 1974 when the seat went to Liberal Terry Gygar. Gygar held the seat until 1983, at which point he lost it to Labor's Denis Murphy, but after Murphy's death Gygar was able to retake the seat at the 1984 Stafford by-election. Gygar was re-elected in 1986 but lost the seat in 1989 to Labor's Rod Welford. In 1992 the seat was abolished, and Welford moved to Everton. Jimmy Sullivan (Queensland Politician)
James Anthony Sullivan (born 5 January 1982) is an Australian politician who has served as the member for Stafford in the Queensland Legislative Assembly since 2020. Sullivan was promoted to Assistant Minister for Justice and Veterans' Affairs by then-premier Steven Miles after the 2023 Queensland Labor Party leadership election. He served in this position until the state election on 26 October 2024. Sullivan was re-elected as the member for Stafford on a 55.3% two party preferred vote, albeit suffering a 6.6% swing to his challenger Fiona Hammond, long serving councillor for the Marchant Ward. Chermside West is a suburb in the City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. In the , Chermside West had a population of 6,965 people. Parts of Chermside West were formerly known as Craigslea. Geography Chermside West is located by road north of the Brisbane CBD. History The name Chermside honours Queensland Governor, Sir Herbert Chermside. St Gerard Majella's Catholic Church opened in 1962 in Pullford Road. Terry Gygar
Terence Joseph "Terry" Gygar, (21 October 1947 – 15 March 2024) was an Australian academic, member of the Queensland Parliament, and former Army officer who served in Vietnam. Gygar was the member for Stafford in the Queensland Parliament, representing the Liberal Party, from 1974 until 1983, and again from 1984 to 1989. During that time he held various shadow portfolios. During his time in parliament he was awarded the Chevening scholarship for study at the London School of Economics. Following his Parliamentary service Gygar completed a Bachelor of Laws with Honours from Bond University. He was a barrister at the Supreme Court of Queensland, the High Court of Australia and the Federal Court of Australia. The Queensland Liberal Party, officially known as the Liberal Party of Australia (Queensland Division), was the Queensland division of the Liberal Party of Australia until 2008. William Charles Roy Harvey (6 January 1921 – 23 April 2006), was Lord Mayor of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia from 1982 until 1985. A member of the Labor Party, he spent a total of 27 years on the Council. Prince Charles Hospital () is a district general hospital in Gurnos, Merthyr Tydfil, Wales. It is managed by the Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board.
