Electoral District Of Herbert
Herbert was a Legislative Assembly electorate in the state (colony until 1901) of Queensland. History Herbert was created in 1888. It was located in north-east Queensland, initially from Cairns to Townsville. It was abolished in the 1949 redistribution (taking effect at the 1950 elections), being incorporated into the newly created Electoral district of Mourilyan. Legislative Assembly Of Queensland
The Legislative Assembly of Queensland is the sole chamber of the unicameral Parliament of Queensland established under the Constitution of Queensland. Elections are held every four years and are done by full preferential voting. The Assembly has 93 members, who have used the letters MP after their names since 2000 (previously they were styled MLAs). There is approximately the same population in each electorate; however, that has not always been the case (in particular, a malapportionment system - not, strictly speaking, a gerrymander - dubbed the '' Bjelkemander'' was in effect during the 1970s and 1980s). Percy Pease
Percy Pease (29 July 1876 – 17 September 1940) was a businessman and member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Biography Pease was born in Kirkby Lonsdale, Westmorland, England, to parents Cuthbert Pease, an army sergeant, and his wife Sarah Emily (née Nice). His family arrived in Brisbane in 1886 and then moved to Townsville where he attended the Townsville West State School. He found employment with Burns Philp and Samuel Allen & Sons in Townsville before working for Chillagoe Pty Co. as a forwarding manager in Mareeba. He then worked for the auctioneering and mercantile firm John Cairns & Co. where he presided over Chillagoe's first sale of township lots in November 1900. Moving to Cairns, he held a partnership in a Cairns grocery and managed the Cairns Morning Post. Around 1904, he joined his elder brother Joseph in the carrying firm (F.A.) Stephen Theodore (1883 – 17 October 1950) was a farmer and member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Biography Theodore was born in Port Adelaide, South Australia, to parents Basil Theodore and his wife Annie (née Tanner). His brother was Ted Theodore, the former Premier of Queensland and Treasurer of Australia. Arriving in Queensland in 1915 after working the goldfields in New South Wales and Western Australia, he was a sugar grower in Tully by 1923 becoming the Director and Chairman of the Tully sugar mill. William Lennon
William Lennon (8 December 1849 – 5 May 1938) was a politician in Queensland, Australia. He was a Member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly and a Member of the Queensland Legislative Council. He was Lieutenant-Governor of Queensland. Biography Lennon was born in Dublin, Ireland to parents William Lennon Snr and his wife Ann (née Martin). Arriving with his family in Melbourne in 1855 he received his education there and by 1870 he was employed as a clerk with the Victorian Mines Department.
