Electoral District Of Eyre
Eyre was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly of Western Australia. It was in existence for three separate periods (1950 to 1962, 1989 to 2005, and 2008 to 2017), on each occasion covering large portions of south-eastern Western Australia. Eyre was a safe seat for the Labor Party in its first two incarnations, but during its third incarnation was a marginal seat between the Liberal Party and the National Party. History Eyre was first created for the 1950 election, mostly replacing Kanowna, and abolished ahead of the 1962 election. Labor MP Emil Nulsen, the former member for Kanowna, was the district's only member over the period, and was unopposed on two occasions. Edward John Eyre
Edward John Eyre (5 August 181530 November 1901) was an English land explorer of the Australian continent, colonial administrator, Lieutenant-Governor of New Zealand's New Munster province, and Governor of Jamaica. Early life Eyre was born in Whipsnade, Bedfordshire, shortly before his family moved to Hornsea, Yorkshire, where he was christened. His parents were Rev. Shire Of Laverton
The Shire of Laverton is a local government area in the Goldfields-Esperance region of Western Australia, about northeast of the city of Kalgoorlie and about east-northeast of the state capital, Perth. The Shire covers an area of , and its seat of government is the town of Laverton. History The Mount Margaret Road District was gazetted on 17 August 1906. It absorbed the Municipality of Mount Morgans on 28 February 1913. On 13 November 1925, it absorbed some land from neighbouring road districts, most notably Lawlers. It was renamed the Laverton Road District on 20 January 1950. Graham Jacobs
Graham Gibson Jacobs (born 8 November 1949) is an Australian former politician. He was a Liberal member of the Western Australian Legislative Assembly from 2005 to 2017. First elected to the seat of Roe at the 2005 election, he transferred to Eyre at the 2008 election following the abolition of his former seat. Jacobs was born in Benalla, Victoria. His family moved to Western Australia in 1955 and settled on a farm at Lort River west of Esperance. Educated at Esperance Primary School then Esperance Senior High School, Jacobs attended the University of Western Australia from 1969 to 1975 and was awarded his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery. Jacobs is married to Kathryn and they have five children; Jesse, Daniel, Aubrey, Lucy and Julian. He is a physician by profession and lives in Esperance. Ravensthorpe, Western Australia
Ravensthorpe is a town 541 km south-east of Perth and 40 km inland from the south coast of Western Australia. It is the seat of government of the Shire of Ravensthorpe. At the , Ravensthorpe had a population of 2,085. In 1848, the area was surveyed by Surveyor General John Septimus Roe who named many of the geographical features nearby, including the nearby Ravensthorpe Range that the later town was named after. There was one of the Western Australian Government Railways isolated branch lines between Hopetoun, Western Australia, Hopetoun and Ravensthorpe. 2008 Western Australian State Election
The 2008 Western Australian state election was held on Saturday 6 September 2008 to elect 59 members to the Legislative Assembly and 36 members to the Legislative Council. The incumbent centre-left Labor Party government, in power since the 2001 election and led since 25 January 2006 by Premier Alan Carpenter, was defeated by the centre-right Liberal Party opposition, led by Opposition Leader Colin Barnett since 6 August 2008. The election resulted in a hung parliament with no party gaining a majority. Labor was two seats short of a majority in the expanded legislature. Ultimately, the Liberals were able to form a coalition government with the WA Nationals, supported by three independents. Southern Cross is a town in Western Australia, 371 kilometres (230.5 miles) east of state capital Perth on the Great Eastern Highway. It was founded in 1888 after gold prospectors Richard Greaves and Ted Paine during their October 1887 expedition successfully found gold, and gazetted in 1890. Boulder, Western Australia
Boulder is a suburb of Kalgoorlie in the Western Australian Goldfields, east of Perth. The Boulder (horse) Races were a significant event in early twentieth century goldfields region history. The town maintained its separation from Kalgoorlie until the 1980s, however even prior to that era, many surveys and studies of the towns and their areas tended to join the names. Prior to 1989, Boulder was a town, but it was merged with Kalgoorlie to form the City of Kalgoorlie–Boulder.
