Electoral District Of Charters Towers
Charters Towers was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland. It has had three incarnations, most recently being created as part of a redistribution in 1991 and lasting until 2008. The latest incarnation of Charters Towers was created in 1992, largely as a replacement for the abolished Flinders. The electorate covered a vast area of central Queensland, from Etheridge Shire in the north to Jericho Shire in the south. Besides its namesake town, Charters Towers, other major locations within the division included Georgetown, Hughenden, Richmond, Moranbah, Clermont, Tieri, Alpha, Aramac and Muttaburra. It was located in what was now National heartland, and was held by that party and its successor, the Liberal National Party, for all but one term. Liberal National Party Of Queensland
The Liberal National Party of Queensland (LNP) is a major conservative political party in Queensland, Australia. It was formed in 2008 by a merger of the Queensland divisions of the Liberal Party and the National Party. In most other states, the two parties remain separate and distinct. Federal LNP parliamentarians sit in the party room of either the Liberals or the Nationals, depending on which federal party their seat has been allocated to by the LNP. The LNP is a division of the Liberal Party of Australia and an affiliate of the National Party of Australia. Arthur Rutledge
Sir Arthur Rutledge (29 August 1843 – 8 February 1917) was a lawyer and politician in Queensland, Australia. He was a Member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Early life Arthur Rutledge was the son of James and Lucy Ann (''née'' Field). He was born at Castlereagh near Penrith, New South Wales. He went with his parents to Drayton on the Darling Downs, Queensland (then in New South Wales) in 1851, returning to Sydney with them in 1855. He was the eldest child of the family. Robert Sayers
Robert John Sayers (27 January 1845 – 12 May 1919) was an English-born Australian politician. Born at Cowes, on the Isle of Wight, he was educated in England before migrating to Australia in 1863. He was a goldminer in New South Wales and then Queensland, and became a mine owner in Charters Towers. Sayers was elected in 1888 to the Legislative Assembly of Queensland as the member for Charters Towers, serving until 1893. In 1906, he was elected to the Australian Senate as an Anti-Socialist Senator for Queensland, joining the Commonwealth Liberal Party in 1909. He was defeated in 1913. Anderson Dawson
Andrew Dawson (16 July 1863 – 20 July 1910), usually known as Anderson Dawson, was an Australian politician and unionist who served as the 14th premier of Queensland for one week from the 1 to the 7 of December 1899. This short-lived premiership was the first Australian Labor Party (ALP) government in Australia and the first parliamentary labour party government anywhere in the world. Early life Dawson was born on 16 July 1863 at Rockhampton, Queensland, the son of Anderson Dawson and his wife Jane (née Smith). Geography Based in inland northern Queensland, Dalrymple was a north–south elongated electorate, running from the Atherton Tableland west of Cairns at its northern end, down to areas west of Mackay at its southern end. Mount Isa was an electoral district in the Legislative Assembly of Queensland in the state of Queensland, Australia from 1972 to 2017. It was located in the outback of the far west of the state and covered an area of 570,502 square kilometres. As of the 2015 state election, it had 19,119 registered electors, a slight decrease from 19,170 in 2009. The district took its name from the mining city of Mount Isa, which held the great majority of the electorate's population. Most of the electorate was virtually unpopulated. Following the implementation of one vote one value reforms in 1989, Mount Isa was one of five remote electorates that were allowed a greater variance from the average seat's population. Electoral District Of Burdekin
Burdekin is an electoral district in the Legislative Assembly of Queensland in the state of Queensland, Australia. Centred on the Ayr–Home Hill region, the electorate also includes some of Townsville's southern semi-rural localities as well as the coal-mining towns of Collinsville, Moranbah and Clermont. The Burdekin River flows through part of the electorate. History The 1949 redistribution abolished the electoral district of Bowen.
