Eastern Olivaceous Flatbill
The eastern olivaceous flatbill (''Rhynchocyclus olivaceus'') is a species of bird in the family Tyrannidae, the tyrant flycatchers. It is found in Brazil, French Guiana, Guyana, Suriname, and Venezuela. Taxonomy and systematics The eastern olivaceous flatbill was formally described and illustrated in 1820 by the Dutch zoologist Coenraad Jacob Temminck under the binomial name ''Platyrhynchos olivaceus''. Temminck specified the type locality as Brazil but this was restricted to Rio de Janeiro by Olivério Pinto in 1944. The eastern olivaceous flatbill is now one of five flatbills placed in the genus ''Rhynchocyclus'' that was introduced in 1836 by Jean Cabanis. Coenraad Jacob Temminck (; 31 March 1778 – 30 January 1858) was a Dutch people, Dutch patrician, Zoology, zoologist and museum director. Biography Coenraad Jacob Temminck was born on 31 March 1778 in Amsterdam in the Dutch Republic. From his father, Jacob Temminck, who was treasurer of the Dutch East India Company with links to numerous travellers and collectors, he inherited a large collection of bird specimens. His father was a good friend of Francois Levaillant who also guided Coenraad. Temminck's ''Manuel d'ornithologie, ou Tableau systématique des oiseaux qui se trouvent en Europe'' (1815) was the standard work on European birds for many years. A covert feather or tectrix on a bird is one of a set of feathers, called coverts (or ''tectrices''), which cover other feathers. The coverts help to smooth airflow over the wings and tail.
