Ealing
Ealing () is a district in west London (sub-region), west London, England, west of Charing Cross in the London Borough of Ealing. It is the administrative centre of the borough and is identified as a major metropolitan centre in the London Plan. Ealing was historically an ancient parish in the county of Middlesex. Until the urban expansion of London in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, it was a rural village. Improvement in communications with London, culminating with the opening of the railway station in 1838, shifted the local economy to market garden supply and eventually to suburban development. By 1902 Ealing had become known as the "Queen of the Suburbs" due to its greenery, and because it was halfway between city and country. Ealing North is a constituency, created in 1950. Since the 2019 general election, it has been represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament by James Murray of Labour Co-op. Ealing Broadway is a major single-level interchange station located in Ealing, in the London Borough of Ealing, West London (sub-region), West London for London Underground services and Elizabeth line services on the National Rail Great Western Main Line. Ealing, Southall (also Ealing Southall) is a constituency created in 1983 and represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since 2024 by Deirdre Costigan of the Labour Party. Ealing Central and Acton is a constituency created in 2010, represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since 2015 by Rupa Huq, who was elected as a Labour MP, suspended from the party in September 2022 following alleged racist comments, and reinstated in March 2023. Ealing Town Hall
Ealing Town Hall is a municipal building in New Broadway, Ealing, London, England. It is a Grade II listed building. History The building was commissioned to replace the old town hall, designed by the town surveyor, Charles Jones, in The Mall. The site selected for the new building was open land owned by the Wood family, who were major landowners in the area. The new building, which was also designed by Charles Jones and in the same style but on a much larger scale, was built by Hugh Knight and officially opened by the Prince and Princess of Wales on 15 December 1888. The design involved an asymmetrical main frontage with eleven bays facing onto New Broadway; the central section featured a double round arched doorway on the ground floor; there were oriel windows on the first and second floors and a gable above flanked by turrets; the design also featured an off-centre clock tower with lancet windows and a spire. Ealing Common is a large open space (approx ) in Ealing, West London. Boundaries The Ealing Common Area is bounded by Ealing, Ealing Town Centre to the west, North Ealing and Hanger Hill to the north, Acton, London, Acton to the east and South Ealing tube station, South Ealing and South Acton, London, South Acton to the south. The Ealing Common open space is bounded by Gunnersbury Ave (A406) to the east and the Uxbridge Road to the north. Northfields, London
Northfields is an area in Ealing, west London. It is centred on Northfield Avenue, a shopping street of mostly independent shops and restaurants. It lies partially in the Ealing W5 and partially in west Ealing's W13 postcode. It lies in the southwest corner of Ealing. From the 14th century this area was part of the manor of Coldhall, or West Ealing. Great and Little Northfields were two large fields in the late Middle Ages, lying in the extreme west of Ealing parish. St Mary's Church, Ealing
St Mary's Church, Ealing, St Mary's Road, Ealing, England, W5 5RH. The building is listed as Grade II, Number: 1079376. Outside the building is Romanesque. The old medieval church was demolished in 1720 and a new church opened in 1740, design by James Horne. The current church was designed by the architect S.S.Teulon, who enlarged and redecorated the earlier Georgian church, between 1865 and 1873, giving it the appearance of a Greek Byzantine basilica. The new building was consecrated in 1866 by Bishop Tait, the Bishop of London, who praised Teulon's alterations at St Mary's, Ealing, as "the transformation of a Georgian monstrosity into the semblance of a Byzantine Basilica". A vestry was added in 1887, the organ enlarged in 1927, further redecoration in the 1950s and 'The Polygon' created in 1978. Further restoration was completed in 2003.
