Districts Of Costa Rica
According to the Territorial Administrative Division the cantons of Costa Rica are subdivided into 488 districts (''distritos''), each of which has a unique five digit postal code. Government organization Each canton is divided into districts whose number varies from canton to canton. Each district has a District Council chaired by a syndic, all popularly elected. The District Council is the interlocutor between the district and the municipal government and ensures the communal and neighborhood interests before the Municipal Council; although the direct administration of the district falls to the municipality, the District Councils also exercise administrative functions such as forwarding projects to the Council and supervising the work of the mayor. San José (canton)
San José is the first canton in the province of San José in Costa Rica. It includes the national capital city of San José. The canton lies on a fertile plain at the eastern end of the Central Valley (Valle Central). The Virilla River and Torres River form the border on the north, while the Tiribí River marks the southern boundary. The canton encompasses San José city, composed by all of its districts, albeit partially Uruca, although the Greater Metropolitan Area reaches far beyond in all directions. Escazú (canton)
Escazú is the second canton in the province of San José in Costa Rica. The canton lies west of the San José Canton and its whole territory is part of the Greater Metropolitan Area. The canton was one of the earliest established in the country, in 7 December 1848. As the metropolitan area has expanded Escazú has become a suburban area on the west side of the national capital city of San José. It is delineated by the Río Tiribí on its northern border. Pavas is the ninth district of the San José canton, in the San José province of Costa Rica. The district comprises Tobías Bolaños International Airport, San José's domestic airport. Uruca
Uruca is the seventh district of the San José canton, in the San José province of Costa Rica. It is an important industrial and commercial area of San José. Commonly known as La Uruca, it's the second biggest district by area (after Pavas), and recognized as a heavily congested transportation hub. Geography Uruca has an area of km² and an elevation of metres. It is the capital's western entrance.
