The Division of Spence is an electoral district for the Australian House of Representatives. It is located in the outer northern suburbs of Adelaide in South Australia. Geography Federal electoral division boundaries in Australia are determined at redistributions by a redistribution committee appointed by the Australian Electoral Commission. Redistributions occur for the boundaries of divisions in a particular state, and they occur every seven years, or sooner if a state's representation entitlement changes or when divisions of a state are malapportioned. History It is named in honour of Catherine Helen Spence, an advocate for female suffrage and electoral reform and the first female political candidate in Australia. Adelaide Plains
The Adelaide Plains (Kaurna name Tarndanya) is a plain in South Australia lying between the coast ( Gulf St Vincent) on the west and the Mount Lofty Ranges on the east. The southernmost tip of the plain is in the southern seaside suburbs of Adelaide around Brighton at the foot of the O'Halloran Hill escarpment with the south Hummocks Range and Wakefield River roughly approximating the northern boundary. Traditionally entirely occupied by the Kaurna (indigenous) people, the Adelaide Plains are crossed by a number of rivers and creeks, but several dry up during summer. It is based in the town of Kapunda, and includes the towns of Freeling, Greenock, Hansborough, Hewett, Roseworthy and Wasleys. Buchfelde, South Australia
Buchfelde is now a suburb of Gawler, South Australia, on the northern outskirts of Adelaide in South Australia. History A property in the area was settled in 1848 by Dr. Richard von Schomburgk and his brother Otto, and is named after their financial benefactor Leopold von Buch who helped them flee Germany. The name was changed from Buchfelde to Loos in 1918 after a town in France which was the site of a battle in 1915. This was to remove a "name of enemy origin". The name returned to Buchfelde in November 1990. Geography The modern boundaries of the suburb were set in June 2011 after the construction of the Northern Expressway. They are the Gawler River on the south, Northern Expressway on the west and north, and Gawler Bypass Road on the east, with the Two Wells Road through the middle. Gawler Belt is a locality to the northwest of Gawler in South Australia. The area is predominantly rural in character, although most of the area is now too small allotments to farm profitably, so it is essentially a rural and industrial suburb of Gawler.
