Diving At The 2008 Summer Olympics
Diving competitions at the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympics were held from August 10 to August 23, at the Beijing National Aquatics Centre. Competition format The following events were contested by both men and women in Beijing: *3m Springboard Synchronized *10m Platform Synchronized *3m Springboard *10m Platform Individual events consisted of preliminaries, semifinals and finals. The order of divers in the preliminary round were determined by computerized random selection, during the Technical Meeting. The 18 divers with the highest scores in the preliminaries proceeded to the semifinals. The semifinal consisted of the top 18 ranked divers from the preliminary competition and the final consisted of the top 12 ranked divers from the semifinal. Beijing National Aquatics Centre
The Water Cube (水立方), fully a.k.a. the National Aquatics Centre (), is a swimming center at the Olympic Green in Chaoyang, Beijing, China. The Water Cube was originally constructed to host the aquatics competitions at the 2008 Summer Olympics and Paralympics. During the 2008 Olympics—where it hosted diving, swimming and synchronized swimming events—25 world records were broken in this facility. In July 2010, a renovation of the facility was completed, which included the addition of a public water park. After renovation and adaptive configuration, the Water Cube also hosted the 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympics. Alexandre Despatie (; born June 8, 1985) is a Canadian diver and broadcaster from Laval, Quebec. He was the world champion at the 1 and 3 m springboards from 2005 to 2007 and is the first, and so far only, diver to have been world champion in all three individual categories (1, 3 and 10 m platform). He is also a 37-time Canadian senior diving champion and nine-time junior champion, and the most decorated male diver in Canadian history, winning two Olympic silver medals and reaching eight podiums at the world championships, including three gold medals. Patrick Hausding
Patrick Hausding (born 9 March 1989) is a German diver. At the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, with his teammate Lars Rüdiger, Hausding won a bronze medal in the men's synchronized 3 metre springboard competition. However, he did not repeat his bronze medal success in the men's 3 m springboard competition from the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, failing to proceed beyond the preliminary round in Tokyo, finishing 21st in a field of 29 divers. At the 2016 Summer Olympics, in addition to his bronze medal success in the men's 3 m springboard competition, Hausding competed in the men's synchronized 3 m springboard event with teammate Stephan Feck. Lin Yue (; born July 24, 1991, in Chaozhou, Guangdong) is a Chinese diver and a double Olympic gold medal winner. He competed for Team China in Diving at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing and won gold with Huo Liang in the Men's synchronized 10 metre platform. He also won gold in the same event at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio with Chen Aisen. Illya Olehovych Kvasha (; born 5 March 1988) is a Ukrainian diver. Competing with Oleksiy Prygorov, he won the bronze medal in the 3 m spring synchro at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. Kvasha is also a multiple European champion both individual and synchronised. Career He also competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics, in both the individual and the synchro with Prygorov. At the 2016 Olympics, he reached the final of the individual 3 m springboard. He specializes in 1m and 3m springboard. He is twice silver medalist of the World Championships in 1m competition and once bronze medalist in 3m synchro event which was his greatest success in a synchro competition since Olympic bronze. Kvasha is one of the most famous and popular modern Ukrainian athletes. He was also thrice awarded The Best Sportsman of the Month by the NOC of Ukraine: in March 2008, April 2009, and June 2017.

Dmitri Ivanovich Sautin (; born 15 March 1974) is a Russian diver who has won more medals than any other Olympic diver. He was born in Voronezh.
