Death-doom
Death-doom (also known as death-doom metal or doom-death) is a fusion genre of death metal and doom metal. It combines the slow tempos and pessimistic or depressive mood of doom metal with the deep death growl, growling vocals and double bass drum, double-kick drumming of death metal. The genre emerged in the late 1980s and gained a certain amount of popularity during the 1990s, but had become less common by the turn of the 21st century. In turn, death-doom gave rise to the closely related genre of funeral doom as well as to the more melodic, gloomy and romantic gothic metal. Doom Metal
Doom metal is an extreme subgenre of heavy metal music that typically uses slower tempos, low-tuned guitars and a much "thicker" or "heavier" sound than other heavy metal genres.K. Funeral doom is a subgenre of death-doom with heavy influence from Dirge, funeral dirge music. Paradise Lost are an English gothic metal band. Formed in Halifax, West Yorkshire, in 1988, they are considered to be among the pioneers of the death-doom genre, and regarded as the main influence for the later gothic metal movement. Autopsy is an American death metal band formed in Contra Costa County, California, Contra Costa County, California, in 1987 by Chris Reifert and Eric Cutler. The group disbanded in 1995 and reunited in 2009. The band's hometown is in Concord, California. Thergothon
Thergothon was a Finnish death-doom band which lasted from 1990 until 1993 and pioneered the funeral doom subgenre. They only released one demo, '' Fhtagn nagh Yog-Sothoth'' (1991), and one album, '' Stream from the Heavens'' (1994). Their sound was extremely slow and dirge-like in long pieces, which combined heavy guitar riffs, extremely deep death grunts and sparse lead guitar melodies. The band disbanded a year before the release of the album and its members focused on other projects. Niko Sirkiä and Jori Sjöroos went on to form This Empty Flow, which marked a distinct stylistic departure from Thergothon. The project began as somewhat of a shoegaze band, taking cues from groups like Slowdive, but ended up as more in the area of trip hop. Anathema were an English rock music, rock band from Liverpool. The group was formed in 1990 by Vincent Cavanagh, Vincent and Daniel Cavanagh, bassist Jamie Cavanagh, drummer/keyboardist John Douglas, and vocalist Darren White. The band maintained an active concert schedule throughout their career. Saturnus (band)
Saturnus are a Danish death-doom band. History The band was formed in 1991 by vocalist Thomas A.G. Jensen and bassist Brian Hansen, as death metal band Asesino. The band changed their name to Saturnus in 1993, switching to their present sound of melodic death/doom with Synthesizer, synthesized touches of gothic metal. Throughout the 90s, Saturnus had recorded and released several demos, an EP, and two albums, ''Paradise Belongs to You'' and ''Martyre''. Saturnus released their third full-length album, ''Veronika Decides to Die (album), Veronika Decides to Die'', in May 2006. The album title was inspired by Paulo Coelho's novel of the same name.
