''Country Town'' is a 1971 Australian drama film directed by Peter Maxwell (director), Peter Maxwell, produced by Fenton Rosewarne and starring Terry McDermott (actor), Terry McDermott, Gary Gray (Australian actor), Gary Gray and Lynette Curran. Peter Maxwell (director)
Peter Maxwell (23 January 1921 – 5 April 2013) born as Peter Magitai, was a British, and later Australian film director, director and screenwriter of television and film. Biography He was born in Vienna, Austria, to newspaper journalist Leo Magatai and wife Johanna. His family fled Vienna in the 1930s, and he changed his surname to enter the British Army. After having been posted to India, he returned to Britain to work as an assistant director to Alexander Korda in 1949. He worked briefly in Australia in the early 1960s before returning to England. In 1967 he emigrated to Australia permanently, where he directed such films as ''Country Town'' and television series including ''Bellbird (TV series), Bellbird'', ''Riptide (Australian TV series), Rip Tide'' and ''A Country Practice''. Peter Cummins
Donald Cummins (2 June 1931 – October 2024), better known as Peter Cummins, was an Australian actor of stage and screen and chorister who was especially prominent in the 1970s and appeared in some of the most famous Australian films of the period. Cummins was part of the Carlton group that were influential in Australian theatre of the early 1970s, which also included David Williamson, Max Gillies, Graeme Blundell and Bruce Spence. Cummins was a long-term resident of Fitzroy, Victoria. He died in October 2024, at the age of 93. Yea ( ) is a town in Victoria (Australia), Victoria, Australia north-east of the state capital Melbourne at the junction of the Goulburn Valley Highway and the Melba Highway, in the Shire of Murrindindi local government area. In an area originally inhabited by the Taungurung people, it was first visited by Europeans of the Hume and Hovell expedition in 1824, and within 15 years most of the land in the area had been taken up by graziers. Surveyed in 1855, the township grew as a service centre for grazing, gold-mining and timber-getting in the area. The town has had a fairly stable population (around 1,100) since 1900, though it now has a relatively old population.
