Action Figure
An action figure is a poseable character model figure made most commonly of plastic, and often based upon characters from a film, comic book, military, video game, television program, or sport; fictional or historical. These figures are usually marketed toward boys and adult collectors. The term was coined by Hasbro in 1964 to market G.I. Joe to boys (while competitors called similar offerings ''boy's dolls''). According to a 2005 study in Sweden, action figures which display traditional masculine traits primarily target boys. While most commonly marketed as a child's toy, the action figure has gained widespread acceptance as collector item for adults. Mark Rein-Hagen, stylized as Mark Rein•Hagen (born 1964), is an American role-playing game, role-playing, card game, card, video game, video and board game designer best known as the creator of ''Vampire: The Masquerade'' and its associated ''World of Darkness'' games. Along with Jonathan Tweet, he is also one of the original two designers of ''Ars Magica''. NECA/WizKids, LLC (commonly known as simply WizKids) is an American company based in New Jersey that produces tabletop games. WizKids is best known for its collectible miniatures games (CMGs) Mage Knight, HeroClix, MechWarrior, and HorrorClix, all of which make use of the company's Clix system, in which the changing combat statistics and abilities of each figure were indicated by a turnable dial inside the base underneath the figure. Shadowrun Duels
''Shadowrun Duels'' is a collectible miniatures game published by WizKids in 2003 that was based on the Shadowrun role-playing game originally produced by FASA Corporation. Description In 2002, WizKids won three awards at the Origins Awards for their HeroClix system, a series of 28 mm miniatures mounted on a rotating dial that could track the changing statistics of the figure. They proved popular, and the following year, WizKids released ''Shadowrun Duels'', a collectible miniatures game using a similar rotating dial system, but with much larger 6" ( 1:12 scale) figurines that were molded by Plan B Toys. The base has three Clix dials that track damage to the head, weapon, or body. Duels between miniatures take place on a flat surface that is at least 5 ft x 5 ft (1.5 m x 1.5m), and the figurines must start at least 4 ft (1.2 m) apart. Toy Biz, Inc. (later known as Marvel Toys) was a toy manufacturer, originally founded in Montreal, Quebec as Charan Toys. The company is best known for holding the Marvel Comics toy license from 1990 to 2006. In 1993, Marvel Entertainment Group acquired a minority stake in Toy Biz. In 1998, Toy Biz merged with Marvel Entertainment Group to bring it out of bankruptcy, with the two merged companies becoming Marvel Enterprises. Marvel Legends Showdown
Marvel Legends Showdown (initially named Marvel Superhero Showdown) is a collectible tabletop game in which the primary component is action figures and cards. It was a collaboration between Upper Deck Entertainment and Toy Biz (Now known as Marvel Toys). The game was played on at least a 3×4 grid of ''Panel cards''. Panel cards broke into two categories; ''Locations'' (Places in the Marvel Universe) and ''Plot Twist'' (Special events that occurred on that space) The goal was to move around the Panel card grid and knock out your opponents character with ''Punches'', ''Kicks'', or shooting them with an included projectile launchers. Once you did three damage to a character he/she was out. The more characters on each side, the larger the Panel grid had to be. Attacktix
The ''Attacktix Battle Figure Game'' was a collectable action figure game produced by Hasbro, released 2005 through 2006 and featuring characters from the ''Star Wars'', ''Transformers'', and Marvel Comics franchises. Many of the action figures are sold in starter sets in quantities of five or in quantities of three in a booster pack. Most figures average approximately 3.5 inches tall with other larger sized "mega" figures and vehicles. The figures sport a wide variety of spring-loaded action features such as projectile launchers and swinging close combat parts. The goal of the Attacktix game is to physically knock down the opponent's figures. It has also been described as an actionized version of another miniatures game, HeroClix. Gameplay Attacktix requires only the collectible figures.
