This is an incomplete list of every brand (also known as make or marque) of car ever produced, by country of origin, which has an article on Wikipedia. Names should not be added unless they already have an article. Some are from manufacturing companies that also use their company name as a brand name; others are from subsidiary companies or divisions, or are products of badge engineering. This is not a list of every brand that is available for sale in each country, but a list of companies that originated or have a significant ''independent'' presence in each country. This typically means manufacturing in that country and often exporting from that country, not just selling cars there. Rebadging
In the automotive industry, rebadging (also known as badge engineering, an intentionally ironic misnomer in that little or no actual engineering takes place) is a form of market segmentation used by automobile manufacturers around the world. To allow for product differentiation without designing or engineering a new model or brand (at high cost or risk), a manufacturer creates a distinct automobile by applying a new "badge" or trademark (brand, logo, or manufacturer's name/make/marque) to an existing product line. The term originated with the practice of replacing an automobile's emblems to create an ostensibly new model sold by a different maker. Changes may be confined to swapping badges and emblems, or may encompass minor styling differences, as with cosmetic changes to headlights, taillights, front and rear fascias, and even outer body skins. Jacer
Jacer Australia is an Australian racing car manufacturer. The company specialises in designing and constructing Formula Vee racing cars for the Australian market. Started by teenage racer Jason Cutts in Marsden Park, Sydney, the first car, called a "Cutts" debuted in October 1995 and won its first race that weekend at Eastern Creek Raceway. In 1997 Cutts won the Australian Nationals and backed it up with a second national title in 200 Originally intending to build just one car Cutts was soon requested to build cars for others. The name was quickly changed from Cutts to Jacer, an amalgamation of Jason and Racer. Australis (automobile)
The Australis was an Australian automobile manufactured in Leichhardt, New South Wales, from 1896 to 1906 by G.W. & G. Wood. The company began production with a motor driven bicycle in 1895. Only three Australis vehicles were produced: a second motor driven bicycle in 1896, a single-cylinder 3horsepower, hp two-seat light Buggy (automobile), buggy in 1900 and a 7horsepower, hp (5 kW) twin-cylinder light Buggy (automobile), buggy in 1906. Australian Six
The Australian Six was an Australian automobile manufactured from 1919 to 1925. It was a grandiose attempt to compete against imported cars from the United States, and was produced from a mixture of local and imported parts. Vehicles featured a conventional chassis layout and a choice of five bodies, locally made under the motto 'Made in Australia, by Australians, for Australia'. Most models were fitted with Rutenber Motor Company, Rutenber Straight-6 engines and Grant Lees or Muncie gearboxes; some, however, had imported Overhead valve engine, OHV Ansted engines instead. Before 1919 the factory was at the Port Jackson, Sydney Harbour side suburb of Rushcutters Bay, New South Wales, it then moved to Ashfield, New South Wales, Ashfield until 1924. British Motor Corporation (Australia) was a motor manufacturing company formed in Australia in 1954 by the merger of the Austin Motor Company (Australia) and Nuffield (Australia). This followed the merger in 1952 of the Austin Motor Company and the Nuffield Group in the United Kingdom to form the British Motor Corporation. Following further corporate changes in the UK in the late 1960s, BMC Australia was absorbed into the newly established British Leyland Motor Corporation of Australia, the name of which became Leyland Motor Corporation of Australia in 1972, ''The Macquarie Dictionary of Motoring'', pp. 272-273 and then JRA Limited in March 1983. Alpha Street productions and later Alpha Sports Productions (ASP) were an Australian kit car and racing car manufacturer. It has made sports cars and open wheeler cars. Originally building cars based on the Lotus Seven but have evolved to construct their own distinctive designs. History Alpha street productions was founded by Ray Lewis and Rory Thompson in the early sixties after the two had met through a common interest in sportscars. Ray, the part owner of Lewis Brothers Buses amongst other businesses provided the premises for their venture at his family home of Alpha house on Alpha Street Kensington Park in Adelaide. The business was founded bLee Stohrin 1991 and is based in Denver, NC, USA. 138 racing cars have been produced as of December 2021. Stohr Cars was purchased by Dauntless Racing in 2014. Origins After driving an Elden Racing Cars, Elden FF for several years in the early 1980s, Lee Stohr designed and built several of his own Formula Fords, Formula Continentals and a Formula 3 type car. In 2001 Stohr moved into the D Sports Racing class. Their first national championship came just one year later with a sports racer with Mark Jaremko driving at the SCCA Runoffs at Mid-Ohio. Spartan-V
The Spartan-V is a high performance two-seat track car made by the Spartan Motor Company based in Sydney, Australia. It is powered by a Ducati V-Twin motorcycle engine. Its name refers to the car's lack of headlights, indicators and several other essential features required by law in most countries, so is for track use only and can not be used on public roads. Origins Twin brothers Peter and Nick Pap started work that led to the Spartan-V in 2005. Design The Spartan-V has a tubular steel spaceframe chassis with engine and 6-speed sequential gearbox from a Ducati 1198S. Designed for race track use, the Spartan has two chrome roll bars which can be removed and replaced with an FIA-approved single roll bar for competition use. Puma Clubman
The Puma Clubman sports car was conceived and designed by John Karnon and Neville Darwin in Adelaide, Australia based on Ron Champion's book ''Build your own sports car for as little as £250 - and race it'' (). Between 1998 and April 2014, John Karnon constructe54 chassisand of those 30 have been completed and registered for road use. John Karnon has continued to develop the Puma chassis design to make use of more modern available donor parts. Early Pumas were built with Nissan SR20DET S13 engines with later cars using Nissan SR20DET S14 and SR20DET S15. The S15 engine uses a six-speed gear box. Two Pumas were constructed with non-turbo SR20DE engines with one having a unique "manual automatic" gearbox. Also, two Pumas are being built with non turbo Mazda MZR2300 engines. PRB (car)
PRB is an Australian builder of Clubman-style sportscars (i.e. cars based on Colin Chapman's ground-breaking Lotus Super Seven design), the PRB Clubman was created by Peter Raymond Bladwell in 1978. Bladwell's first order was received from John Ribeiro, a racing driver from Canberra, Australian Capital Territory, who went on to win the New South Wales State Hill Climb Championship in his PRB. There are now several hundred PRB Clubmans on Australian roads. The cars compete very successfully, primarily in Club motorsport. An acceleration time of 0 – 100 km/h in less than 4 seconds is achievable in a modified car. The current PRB clubman is a composite monocoque design utilising aluminium honeycomb construction.
