Airtel, stylized as airtel () is a telecom Brand architecture, sub-brand of Robi (company), Robi Axiata in Bangladesh, which was managed by Bharti Airtel under the banner, 'Airtel Bangladesh Limited' until November 2016. In November 2016, Airtel merged its operations with Robi Axiata Limited. Following the merger, Airtel remained as a ''product brand'' of Robi Axiata Ltd. in Bangladesh. Since then, Robi Axiata is the brand licensing holder for Airtel brand in Bangladesh. Previously Airtel Bangladesh acquired Warid Bangladesh in 2010. Citycell
Pacific Bangladesh Telecom Limited, ( dba: Citycell) was the oldest mobile operator of Bangladesh. It was the 1st mobile operator company in Bangladesh and one of the pioneering telecommunications network companies in South Asia, along with Etisalat of Sri Lanka and Paktel of Pakistan. Former BNP leader & former foreign minister M Morshed Khan is the founder chairman of PBTL (Pacific Bangladesh Telecom Limited) & Citycell.It was the only mobile operator in the country using CDMA and EVDO technology. Citycell's total mobile subscriber base was 0.142 million as of August 2016. The ownership structure of Citycell was divided amongst SingTel (44.54%), Pacific Motors (37.95%) and Far East Telecom (17.51%). Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) () is an independent commission founded under the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulation Act, 2001 (Act no. 18 of 2001). The commission is responsible for regulating all matters related to telecommunications (wire, cellular, satellite and cable) of Bangladesh. The chairman of the commission has the status of a judge of the High Court Division. Since 10 September 2024, Md. Emdad-Ul-Bari has been the chairman of the commission. History In 1979, the Bangladesh Telegraph and Telephone Board was established through the Bangladesh Telegraph and Telephone Board Ordinance, 1975. The ordinance was revised in 1995. The BTRC started operating from 31 January 2002 with a vision of facilitating affordable telecommunication services and increasing the teledensity to at least 10 telephones per 100 inhabitants by 2010. E-commerce in Bangladesh refers to the electronic commerce sector of Bangladesh business. History In 2009 Bangladesh Bank approved online payment and in 2013 the bank approved the use of debit and credit card for online payment. The eCommerce Association of Bangladesh is the trade body for eCommerce in Bangladesh. According to the association, there are 8,000 eCommerce pages in Facebook alone. The growth of the industry has been inhibited by low usage of credit and debit cards, and the unavailability of PayPal. In 2016 the government of Bangladesh opened eCommerce sites for every district in the country. The same year, FBCCI recommended removal of tax on eCommerce.
