Black-browed Barbet
The black-browed barbet (''Psilopogon oorti'') is an Megalaimidae, Asian barbet native to Peninsular Malaysia and Sumatra, where it inhabits foremost forests between altitude. It is listed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List because of its wide distribution and stable population. Taxonomy ''Bucco oortii'' was the scientific name proposed by Salomon Müller in 1835 who described a barbet specimen collected in Sumatra. It was placed in the Genus (biology), genus ''Megalaima'' proposed by George Robert Gray in 1842 who suggested to use this name instead of ''Bucco''. Molecular phylogenetic research of Asian barbets revealed that ''Megalaima'' species form a clade, which also includes the fire-tufted barbet, the only species placed in the genus ''Psilopogon'' at the time. Salomon Müller (7 April 1804 – 29 December 1864) was a German natural history, naturalist. He was born in Heidelberg, and died in Freiburg im Breisgau. Müller was the son of a saddler in Heidelberg. Along with Heinrich Boie and Heinrich Christian Macklot, he was sent by Coenraad Jacob Temminck to collect specimens in the East Indies. The fire-tufted barbet (''Psilopogon pyrolophus'') is a species of bird in the Asian barbet family (biology), family Megalaimidae. Psilopogon
''Psilopogon'' is a genus of Old World barbets that used to include only a single species, the fire-tufted barbet (''P. pyrolophus''). Results of molecular phylogenetic analyses indicate that the genus is nested within an evolutionary branch consisting of Megalaimidae, Asian barbets that were formerly placed in the genus ''Megalaima'' proposed by George Robert Gray in 1841. Megalaimidae
Megalaimidae, the Asian barbets, are a family of birds, comprising two genera with 35 species native to the forests of the Indomalayan realm from Tibet to Indonesia.
