A belt-driven bicycle is a Chainless bicycle, chainless bicycle that uses a flexible belt (mechanical), belt, typically a synchronous toothed belt, toothed design, in order to Transmission (mechanics), transmit power from the pedals to the wheel. A fork end, fork-end, or forkend is a slot in a bicycle frame or bicycle fork where the axle of a bicycle wheel is attached. A dropout is a type of fork end that allows the rear wheel to be removed without first derailing the chain. Track bicycle frames have track fork ends, on which the opening faces rearwards. Because they do not have dropouts, the chain must be derailed from the sprocket before the rear wheel can be removed from a typical track bike. In a piston engine, either a timing belt (also called a ''cambelt'') or timing chain or set of timing gears is a perishable component used to synchronize the rotation of the crankshaft and the camshaft. This synchronisation ensures that the engine's valves open and close at the correct times in relation to the position of the pistons.
