In mid-April 2022, a military engagement began in Popasna between Ukrainian military, Ukrainian and Russian military, Russian forces. On 7 May, the city came under Russian control. Background Popasna is an important regional hub with many roadway junctions key to Russian people's militias in Ukraine, separatist forces during the war in Donbas and the Russian advances in the Eastern Ukraine campaign, eastern theatre of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Popasna
Popasna (; ; known as Imeni Kahanovycha from around 1930 to 1944) is a List of cities in Ukraine, city in Sievierodonetsk Raion, Luhansk Oblast, Ukraine. It is the administrative center of Popasna urban hromada, one of the hromadas of Ukraine. In 2018, it was estimated that it had a population of 20,600 people. Hirske (, ; ) is a city in Sievierodonetsk Raion, Luhansk Oblast, eastern Ukraine. It is the administrative center of Hirske urban hromada, one of the hromadas of Ukraine. Troitske, Sievierodonetsk Raion
Troitske (; ) is a village in the Sievierodonetsk Raion (district) of Luhansk Oblast in eastern Ukraine, on the banks of Luhan River.
