Battle Of Jaworów
The Battle of Jaworów () was fought between the German forces and elements of the Polish Małopolska Army during the German Invasion of Poland. It took place from 14 to 16 September 1939 in the vicinity of the town of Jaworów. In the effect of a two-day assault, the Polish forces broke through the German line of defence on their way towards the city of Lwów (modern Lviv). The engagement is best known for the destruction of one battalion of three battalions of SS-Germania regiment together with the capture of the heavy equipment of the entire regiment. The battle resulted from a chaotic situation in the rear of Małopolska Army. Although the army, since 13 September commanded by General Kazimierz Sosnkowski, maintained a high morale and remained in relatively good fighting condition during the first two weeks of the war, a string of retreats seriously depleted its forces. Karpaty Army
Karpaty Army () was formed on 11 July 1939 under Major General Kazimierz Fabrycy after Nazi Germany created a puppet state of Slovakia and the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia was proclaimed after the events that lead to the breakup of Czechoslovakia. According to Polish historians Czesław Grzelak and Henryk Stańczyk, it consisted of two mountain brigades, Lwów Brigade of National Defence and a Battalion ''Węgry'' (''Hungary''). Altogether, Karpaty Army was made of 26 battalions, 160 cannons and 16 planes. The 49th Hutsul Rifle Regiment was a unit of the Polish Army, which belonged to the Polish 11th Infantry Division, 11th Carpathian Infantry Division (Army Kraków). Stationed in the Second Polish Republic, interbellum in the garrison in Kolomyia, Kolomyja, it participated in the Polish September Campaign, fighting in southern Poland. Bronisław Prugar-Ketling (2 July 1891, Trześniów, Subcarpathian Voivodeship – 18 February 1948, Warsaw) was a Polish general. He was a member of Polish Military Organisation in World War I, later served in the Blue Army. He fought in the Polish-Soviet War. During German invasion of Poland he commanded the Polish 11th Infantry Division in Karpaty Army. Ivano-Frankove (, ), formerly Yaniv and Dolyna, is a rural settlement in Yavoriv Raion of Lviv Oblast in Ukraine. Sudova Vyshnia (, ; ) is a small city in the Yavoriv Raion of the Lviv Oblast (region) of Ukraine. It hosts the administration of Sudova Vyshnia urban hromada, one of the hromadas of Ukraine.
