{{One source, date=October 2023 A battery indicator (also known as a battery gauge) is a device or software which gives information about a battery. This will usually be a visual indication of the battery's state of charge. It is particularly important in the case of a battery electric vehicle. Automobiles Some automobiles are fitted with a battery condition meter to monitor the starter battery. This meter is, essentially, a voltmeter but it may also be marked with coloured zones for easy visualization. Many newer cars no longer offer voltmeters or ammeters; instead, these vehicles typically have a light with the outline of an automotive battery on it. This can be somewhat misleading as it may be confused for an indicator of a bad battery when in reality it indicates a problem with the vehicle's charging system. An electric battery is a source of electric power consisting of one or more electrochemical cells with external connections for powering electrical devices. When a battery is supplying power, its positive terminal is the cathode and its negative terminal is the anode. The terminal marked negative is the source of electrons. State Of Health
State of health (SoH) is a figure of merit of the condition of a battery (or a cell, or a battery pack), compared to its ideal conditions. The unit of SoH is percent (100% = the battery's conditions match the battery's specifications). For example, when the capacity of a new battery is same as the nominal capacity as per the battery specification, it is said to be in optimal health (SoH = 100%). As the battery is further utilized in a device, its health as in its capacity and other useful parameters deteriorate till it reaches the end of life (SoH = ~70-80%). Consequently, such batteries are replaced from regular usage pertaining to their unstable and unreliable performance. Typically, a battery's SoH will be 100% at the time of manufacture and will decrease over time and use.
