Basketball in Canada dates back to the 20th century. Basketball is played year-round by men and women and various levels of competition. Canada Men's National Basketball Team
The Canada men's national basketball team () represents Canada in international basketball competitions since 1923. They are overseen by Canada Basketball, the governing body for basketball in Canada. In 10 Olympic appearances, Canada has won one medal in basketball – a silver at the 1936 Games in Berlin. 2019 CEBL Season
The 2019 CEBL season was the inaugural season of the Canadian Elite Basketball League. It included six teams: Saskatchewan, Fraser Valley, Edmonton, Hamilton, Niagara, and Guelph. The regular season ran from May 9, 2019 to August 15, 2019, and the Championship Weekend took place on August 24 and 25, 2019, hosted in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. On August 25, the Saskatchewan Rattlers won the CEBL's first ever Championship after beating the Hamilton Honey Badgers. The NBL's first game was played on May 1, 1993 when the Cape Breton Breakers visited the Halifax Windjammers. The Breakers won the regular season championship with a 30-16 record, but they lost the championship finals to Saskatoon three games to one. During the 1994 season there were rumours that the Cape Breton team was going to move to Saint John in mid-season, which never happened before the league folded on July 9, 1994.
