Baseball At The 2020 Summer Olympics
Baseball was featured at the 2020 Summer Olympics, in Tokyo, for the first time since the 2008 Summer Olympics. Six national teams competed in the tournament: Israel, Japan (host), Mexico, South Korea, the United States, and the Dominican Republic. Baseball/softball was one of five optional sports that were added to the programme of the 2020 Summer Olympics. It did not return in 2024 for the Paris Summer Olympics. The tournament was originally scheduled to be held in 2020, but on 24 March 2020, the Olympics were postponed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, the games were played behind closed doors. Medalists Qualification Six national teams qualified for the Olympic baseball tournament. Japan automatically qualified, as the host nation. Yokohama Stadium
is a baseball stadium in Naka-ku, Yokohama, Japan. It opened in 1978 and has a capacity of 34,046 people. It is primarily used for baseball and is the home field of the Yokohama DeNA BayStars. The stadium features dirt around the bases and pitcher's mound, but with dirt colored turf infield and base paths. The entire green portion of the field is also turfed. It hosted an Australian rules football match and drew the second largest crowd for such an event outside of Australia. Concerts Santana and Masayoshi Takanaka performed at the stadium on August 2, 1981. Anzen Chitai performed at the stadium on August 31, 1985. Kodai Senga
is a Japanese professional baseball pitcher for the New York Mets of Major League Baseball (MLB). Yūdai Ōno (大野 雄大, born September 26, 1988, in Kyoto, Japan) is a Japanese professional baseball pitcher for the Chunichi Dragons of the Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB). Early career As a junior, Ōno played for Kyoto Gaidai Nishi High School where he was part of the school team that faced a young Masahiro Tanaka in the 2005 Summer Koshien.
