Bantam (poultry)
A bantam is any small variety of fowl, usually of chicken or domestic duck, duck. Most large chicken breeds and several breeds of duck have a bantam counterpart, which is much smaller than the standard-sized fowl, but otherwise similar in most or all respects. A List of true bantam chicken breeds, true bantam chicken is naturally small and has no large counterpart. Etymology The word ''bantam'' derives from the name of the Banten (town), seaport city of Bantam in western Java, Indonesia. European sailors restocking on live fowl for sea journeys found the small native breeds of chicken in Southeast Asia to be useful, and any such small poultry came to be known as a ''bantam''. Sebright Chicken
The Sebright ( IPA: ) is a British breed of bantam chicken. It is a true bantam – a miniature bird with no corresponding large version – and is one of the oldest recorded British bantam breeds. Call Duck
The Call is a historic List of duck breeds, breed of small domestic duck. It is believed to have originated in the Netherlands, where the earliest descriptions and depictions of it date from the seventeenth century. It is similar in appearance to some other breeds of duck, but is much smaller, with a round head and very short bill. Ducks, but not drakes, are very loquacious and noisy, with a piercing high-pitched call that can be heard from far away. The Call was in the past used as a decoy duck to attract wild ducks into traps, hence giving it its name. Banten (town)
Banten, also written as Bantam, is a port town near the western end of Java, Indonesia. It has a secure harbour at the mouth of Banten River, a navigable passage for light craft into the island's interior. The town is close to the Sunda Strait through which important ocean-going traffic passes between Java and Sumatra. Old Banten, the capital of the Banten Sultanate, was strategically important and a major centre for trade. History In the 5th century Banten was part of the Tarumanagara kingdom.
