Bajiquan
''Bajiquan'' () is a traditional Chinese martial art that features explosive, short-range power in close combat and is well-known for its rapid elbow and shoulder strikes. Its full name is ''kaimen bajiquan'' (). The ''eight extremities'' in Bajiquan refers to the eight distalmost parts of the body to strike the opponent. This includes the fist, forearm, elbow, shoulder, hip, thigh, knee, and foot to deliver a powerful blow in close range. Bajiquan is also known as the "''bodyguard style''", as this was the pugilism style taught and used by personal bodyguards for Mao Zedong, Chiang Kai-shek, and Puyi (the last Qing dynasty emperor). Liu Yunqiao
Liu Yunqiao (劉雲樵, 1909 - January 24, 1992) was a Chinese Army Colonel and a martial artist from the Republic of China. He was born in Jibeitou Village, Cangzhou, Hebei Province and is most famous for his martial arts prowess. He was a closed-door disciple of martial artist Li Shuwen and was proficient in various martial arts, mainly Bajiquan. He established the Wutan Martial Arts Promotion Center (武壇國術推廣中心, also referred to simply as "Wutan"), theBajiquan Association (八極拳協會), " Jianyi Association" (劍藝協會), and a few other martial arts institutions. Ryuchi Matsuda
- born Masashi Matsuda (松田 鉦, Matsuda Masashi) - was a Japanese scholar of Chinese martial arts from Okazaki City, Aichi Prefecture. "Ryuchi" was his Dharma name when he was a Shingon priest of Toji Temple. Per Dr. Kenji Tokitsu, author and practitioner of Japanese martial arts, Matsuda is known for introducing and publicising various Chinese martial arts in Japan. Wu Yue (born 25 April 1976) is a Chinese film and television series actor. Li Shuwen
Li Shuwen () (1864–1934) was a master practitioner of the Chinese martial art of Bajiquan. He was known as "God Spear Li" (神槍李). His prowess was said to be such that he boasted that he did not have to strike the same opponent twice. He was a martial arts adviser of Fu Zhensong, notably once fighting him to a draw. Li's students eventually became personal bodyguards for Mao Zedong, Chiang Kai-shek, and Puyi. While not due to malicious intent, Li Shuwen killed many people during his life in either martial arts matches or self defense, causing victims' relatives to hold a grudge. He died after consuming poisonous tea served by one of them. Regardless, his reputation as one of the world's greatest martial artists persists to this day. Horse Stance
The horse stance is a common posture in Asian martial arts. It is called ''mǎbù'' (馬步) in Chinese, (or ) in Japanese, and ''juchum seogi'' (주춤 서기) or ''annun seogi'' (lit. sitting stance) in Korean.
