Autzen Stadium is an outdoor football stadium in Eugene, Oregon, United States. Located north of the University of Oregon campus, it is the home field of the Oregon Ducks of the Big Ten Conference. Opened in 1967, the stadium has undergone several expansions. The official seating capacity is presently 54,000 to 60,000 (with SRO); however, the actual attendance regularly exceeds that figure. History Prior to 1967, the Ducks' on-campus stadium was Hayward Field, which they shared with the track and field team. However, by the late 1950s, it had become apparent that Hayward Field was no longer suitable for the football team. It seated only 22,500 people, making it one of the smallest in the University Division (now Division I), and only 9,000 seats were available to the general public. Oregon Ducks Football
The Oregon Ducks football program is a college football team for the University of Oregon, located in the U.S. state of Oregon. The team competes at the NCAA Division I level in the Football Bowl Subdivision, FBS and is a member of the Big Ten Conference (B1G). 2002 Oregon Ducks Football Team
The 2002 Oregon Ducks football team represented the University of Oregon as a member of the Pacific-10 Conference (Pac-10) during the 2002 NCAA Division I-A football season. Led by eighth-year head coach Mike Bellotti, the Ducks compiled an overall record of 7–6 with a mark of 3–5 in conference play, placing eight in the Pac-10. 1967 Oregon Webfoots Football Team
The 1967 Oregon Ducks football team represented the University of Oregon during the 1967 NCAA University Division football season. All five home games were played on campus in Eugene at the new Autzen Stadium, opened this season with a natural grass field (and replaced with AstroTurf two years later). Under first-year head coach Jerry Frei, the Ducks were 2–8 overall and in the Athletic Association of Western Universities (AAWU, later renamed Pacific-8), in a tie for seventh place, and were outscored 193 to 104. The Ducks met USC for the first time since 1958, the final Pacific Coast Conference (PCC) season. (UCLA was similarly off of UO's schedule until 1969). Oregon's two victories came against the Palouse neighbors, Idaho and Washington State. Leo Harris
Leo A. Harris (August 6, 1904 – April 22, 1990) was an American athlete, coach, and athletic director. He played college football at Stanford University, coached football and basketball at Fresno State College, and was the first athletic director for the University of Oregon, bringing success to a financially troubled system. He was also known for his handshake deal with Walt Disney that permitted the University of Oregon to use the likeness of Donald Duck as the basis for its mascot, the Oregon Duck. Playing and coaching career Harris was a fullback and guard at Santa Cruz High School in Santa Cruz, California. He attended Stanford University, where he played tackle for legendary coach "Pop" Warner in 1925 and 1926. Omniturf
Omniturf is a brand of sand in-filled second-generation artificial turf. It was the first artificial surface to be used by an English Football League club. United Kingdom The first club to install this 'plastic grass' surface was Queens Park Rangers who installed the new pitch for the start of the 1981/82 season. Despite much publicity around the supposed unfair advantage the pitch would provide Rangers, they proceeded to lose the opening home Division Two match on the new surface by 1-2 against Luton Town. The pitch did prove to be successful for Rangers though, as they reached the FA Cup Final in the 1981/82 season (as a 2nd Division club), and then won the (old) 2nd Division Championship the following season. The Washington Huskies football team represents the University of Washington in college football. Hayward Field
Hayward Field is a track and field stadium in the Northwestern United States, located on the campus of the University of Oregon in Eugene, Oregon. It has been the home of the university's track and field teams since 1921, and was the on-campus home of the varsity football team from 1919 through 1966.
