Auce
Auce (; ; ) is a town in Dobele Municipality, in the Semigallia region of Latvia. It is situated near the Lithuanian border. History Before the 13th century, the territory of Auce was a part of a Semigallians, Semigallian Spārnene county. After the partition of Semigallia in 1254, the territory was granted to the Archbishopric of Riga. Auce is first mentioned in written sources in 1426 as Owcze. In 1616, the Old Auce () manor is mentioned for the first time when there was a regional assembly that was held (landtag) of the Duchy of Courland. In 1667, the first Lutherans, Lutheran church was erected in Auce. From 1768 until Latvian Land Reform of 1920, the Latvian agrarian reforms in the 1920s, the Old Auce manor was property of the Baltic Germans, Baltic German von Medem (surname), Medem family. Ramona Petraviča
Ramona Petraviča (born 25 September 1967 in Auce) is a Latvian politician and financier, who is a member of the Saeima and who between 23 January 2019 and 3 June 2021 served as in the Kariņš cabinet led by Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš. Biography Petraviča graduated from Riga Technical University with a degree in chemical technology in 1992. Before being elected to the Saeima in 2018, Petraviča was the finance director of the Saldus-based logistics company SIA ''Monēta'' and, since 2017, a member of the Saldus Municipality Council. Signe Baumane
Signe Baumane (born 7 August 1964) is a Latvian animator, artist, illustrator and writer, currently living and working in New York City. She is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, she was a 2005 Fellow in Film of the New York Foundation for the Arts. She is also a teacher, having taught animation at the Pratt Institute from 2000 to 2002. Early life and education Signe Baumane was born in Auce, Latvia, and grew up in Tukums, Latvia and Sakhalin Island. She was married to Yuriy Gavrilenko, an artist and impresario, and Lasse Persson, a Swedish animator. She began writing for publication at the age of 14. Semigallians
Semigallians (; ; also ''Zemgalians'', ''Semigalls'' or ''Semigalians'') were the Balts, Baltic tribe that lived in the south central part of contemporary Latvia and northern Lithuania. They are noted for their long resistance (1219–1290) against the German crusaders and Teutonic Knights during the Northern Crusades.
