At the 1986 Commonwealth Games, the Athletics (sport), athletics events were held at the Meadowbank Stadium in Edinburgh, Scotland. A total of 41 events were contested, of which 23 by male and 18 by female athletes. Todd Bennett
Todd Anthony Bennett (6 July 1962 – 16 July 2013) was a British athlete who competed mainly in the 400 metres. He competed at the 1984 Summer Olympics and the 1988 Summer Olympics. Biography Bennett competed for Great Britain in the 1984 Summer Olympics held in Los Angeles, United States, in the 4 × 400 metre relay where he won the silver medal with his teammates Kriss Akabusi, Garry Cook and Philip Brown. Bennett's international career started in 1981 where he took the 400 m title at the European Junior Championships as well as forming one quarter of the silver medal-winning 4 × 400 m squad. Steve Binns
Stephen John Binns (born 25 August 1960) is a British former long-distance runner who competed at the 1988 Summer Olympics. Biography Binns rose to prominence in 1979 as a junior athlete. First he took the individual and team silver medals at the 1979 IAAF World Cross Country Championships junior race, then won the 5000 metres at the 1979 European Athletics Junior Championships – his winning time of 13:44.37 minutes remains the championship record as of 2014. He capped the season with a European junior record of 13:27.04 minutes in London. Jonathan "Jon" Solly (born 28 June 1963) is a male English former long-distance runner. Athletics career Solly won the gold medal for England in the 10,000 metres at the 1986 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh, Scotland. He achieved his personal best time of 27:51.76 minutes at Crystal Palace on 20 June 1986. Timothy Hilton Hutchings (born 4 December 1958) is a male former middle- and long-distance runner who represented England and Great Britain internationally. Biography Hutchings' track events were the 1500 metres, 5000 metres and 10,000 metres. His main championship performances in track and field were a 5000 m bronze medal in the 1986 European Championship and a bronze medal in the 5000 m at the 1986 Commonwealth Games. Jack Buckner
Jack Richard Buckner (born 22 September 1961) is a former British athlete. Athletics career Buckner was educated at St. Petroc's preparatory school in Bude, Cornwall where he won the Victor Ludorum trophy in 1975, as well as a scholarship to Worksop College in Nottinghamshire. He clocked 4:16.90 for 5th place at The English Schools Championships at 1500m as a 15-year-old. Three years later he won the National Junior 1500m title in 3:50.94, after an administrative blunder prevented him from competing in the English Schools' Championships of the same year. After leaving Worksop College, Buckner attended Loughborough University, where he read geography. He later completed an MBA degree. Steve Ovett
Stephen Michael James Ovett, (; born 9 October 1955) is a retired British track athlete. A middle-distance runner, he was the gold medalist in the 800 metres at the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow. Ovett set five world records for 1500 metres and the mile run, and a world best at two miles. He won 45 consecutive 1500 and mile races from 1977 to 1980. Early life Born in Brighton, Sussex, and educated at Varndean Grammar School, Ovett was a talented teenage athlete. Peter Elliott (born 9 October 1962) is a former middle-distance runner from the United Kingdom. During his career, he won the gold medal in the 1500 metres at the 1990 Commonwealth Games, the silver medal in the 1500 metres at the 1988 Olympic Games, and the silver medal in the 800 metres at the 1987 World Championships. Biography Elliott was brought up in Rawmarsh, near Rotherham, in the then West Riding of Yorkshire. Thomas McKean (born 27 October 1963) is a Scottish former middle-distance runner representing Great Britain and Scotland internationally. Steve Cram
Stephen Cram, (born 14 October 1960) is a British retired track and field athlete. Along with fellow Britons Sebastian Coe and Steve Ovett, he was one of the world's dominant middle-distance runners during the 1980s. Nicknamed "The Jarrow Arrow", after his home town, Cram set world records in the 1,500 m, 2,000 m, and the mile during a 19-day period in the summer of 1985.
