Charles-Valentin Alkan
Charles-Valentin Alkan (; 30 November 1813 – 29 March 1888) was a French Jewish composer and virtuoso pianist. At the height of his fame in the 1830s and 1840s he was, alongside his friends and colleagues Frédéric Chopin and Franz Liszt, among the leading pianists in Paris, a city in which he spent virtually his entire life. Alkan earned many awards at the Conservatoire de Paris, which he entered before he was six. His career in the salons and concert halls of Paris was marked by his occasional long withdrawals from public performance, for personal reasons. Although he had a wide circle of friends and acquaintances in the Parisian artistic world, including Eugène Delacroix and George Sand, from 1848 he began to adopt a reclusive life style, while continuing with his compositions – virtually all of which are for the keyboard. Erol Alkan (born 30 May 1974) is an English DJ and producer of Turkish Cypriot descent. He grew up in Archway in North London. Career DJ and club promoter In 1993, Erol Alkan started DJing in various indie nightclubs in London. His first ever public DJ set was at The Gass Club in Leicester Square. In 1995, he was a resident DJ of club night 'Going Underground' co-founded by Glyn Peppiatt and James Dickie. It was held weekly on Mondays at the Plastic People venue which was situated at its original Oxford Street location in Central London. In 1997, Erol re-launched the club under a new name: Trash. Okan Alkan (born 1 October 1992) is a Turkish professional footballer who plays as a right back or right winger for Bandırmaspor. A product of Fenerbahçe's youth system, he made his professional debut on 29 August 2010. At international level, he played for various Turkey youth national teams. Early years Alkan was born in the city of Kızıltepe in the Mardin province of Turkey. One of six brothers, he joined a Fenerbahçe football school in Mardin as a 12-year-old, unbeknownst to his father. Siegfried Alkan (30 March 1858 – 24 December 1941) was a German composer. Alkan was born in Dillingen, Saarland (then Prussia, now Germany), the son of Johannes Alkan and Johanna Bonn in a family of merchants and musicians. Through his mother he was a distant cousin of the composers Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, Fanny Hensel and Giacomo Meyerbeer. Alkan Boudewijn de Beaumont Chaglar (born August 5, 1981 in London) is a Canadian and British journalist. He used to be editor and columnist for the Turkish Cypriot weekly bilingual (English-Turkish) newspaper ''Toplum Postası''. He is currently Editor-in-Chief of the UK-based ''The Cypriot Chronicle'' and a member of the L'Association des journalistes indépendants du Québec. Chaglar was educated at Leicester, Liège, and the School of Oriental and African Studies, with a background in languages, political science and history.
