Ghassan Alian
Ghassan Alian (, ; born 21 March 1972) is an Israeli-Druze officer in the IDF and the current head of the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories. Aluf by rank (equivalent to Major General), he has previously served as Central Command's executive officer and head of the Israeli Civil Administration. Alian is one of the highest ranking Druze Arabs in the IDF and has served since 1990. Biography Ghassan Alian is from Shefa-'Amr. He and his wife Shirin have three children. Military career Alian was Chief Infantry and Paratroopers Officer and commanding officer of the Golani Brigade. Golani Brigade
The 1st "Golani" Brigade (, ''Hativat Golani'') is an Israeli military infantry brigade. It is subordinated to the 36th Division and traditionally associated with the Northern Command. It is one of the five infantry brigades of the regular Israel Defense Forces (IDF), the others being the Paratroopers Brigade, the Nahal Brigade, the Givati Brigade and the Kfir Brigade. Its symbol is a green olive tree against a yellow background, with its soldiers wearing a brown beret. It is one of the most highly decorated infantry units in the IDF. The brigade consists of five battalions, including two which it kept from its inception (12th and 13th), one transferred from the Givati Brigade (51st). The Alian Qizilbash community (in Bulgarian: алиани, in Turkish: Alevi), are a Shi`a order, similar to the Sufi Mevlevi, who live in several regions of Bulgaria. Alians revere the name " Ali" carried by their circle of 12 Imams ''( awliya'),'' which they consider an emanation of God. They follow the mystical rituals of the wandering dervishes. Origin theories Their exact origin is not certain, since few relevant historical records have been preserved, but according to the prevailing theory they fled to Bulgaria from Central Anatolia after the 1512 victory by the Ottoman Sultan Selim I, a Sunni, over the first, part- Turcoman Safavid shah of the Persians, Ismail I. Alian District ( zh, t=阿蓮區, p=Ālián Qū, w=A1-lien2 Ch'ü1, poj=A-lian-khu) is a rural district in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. History After the handover of Taiwan from Japan to the Republic of China in 1945, Alian was organized as a rural township of Kaohsiung County. On December 25, 2010, Kaohsiung County was merged with Kaohsiung City and Alian was upgraded to a district of the city. Geography The district is located at the northeast of the Kaohsiung Plain on the north end of western Kaohsiung City, between the Erren River and the Agongdian River.
