Al-Kataib Media Foundation
Al-Kataib Media Foundation () is the official media wing of the insurgent group Al-Shabaab which is based in Somalia. It produces media featuring original sermons and speeches by senior Al-Shabaab commanders and leaders as well as footage of operations and attacks carried out by Al-Shabaab. Al-Kataib's first production under the name is believed to have been in 2010. History For years, starting in 2006, al-Shabaab linked forums and websites began proliferating across the internet. Jilib is a city in the Middle Juba region of Somalia. It currently serves as the ''de facto'' capital of the Islamic Emirate of Somalia controlled by al-Shabaab. Radio al-Andalus (, , ) or sometimes called Radio Andalus is a radio station that was created by Al-Shabaab's media outlet, Al-Kataib Media Foundation in 2009. History Radio al-Andalus was created in 2009 as a way to disseminate Jihadist propaganda during a propaganda effort by Al-Kataib Media Foundation to expand its methods of spreading propaganda and a way to gain a financial outlet with donations, it was created alongside Quran Karim Radio FM, Somali Wayen Radio FM, HornAfrik Radio though Radio al-Andalus is the largest. Radio al-Furqan () is a Somali radio station and media outlet owned and controlled by al-Shabaab. History Radio al-Furqan was created by al-Shabaab in 2009 in order to disseminate Jihadist propaganda, religious teachings and audio messages, alongside Radio al-Andalus. Radio al-Furqan hosts a Somali language website that promotes interests of al-Shabaab which include videos and photo releases by al-Kataib Media Foundation, its style similar to Amaq News Agency as it tries to present itself as an independent media source. Shahada News Agency (, ) is an news agency of the militant organization Al-Shabaab and is used as the main disseminator for news in Arabic as well as English translations relating to attacks done by al-Shabaab and other operations including executions. History Shahada News Agency traces its origins to the initial Al-Shabaab's daily news reports and translations through the Al-Qaeda affiliated Global Islamic Media Front platform, which used to publish daily reports starting from 2008. The African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) was a Multinational force formed by the African Union. The operation deployed to Somalia soon after the Islamic Courts Union was deposed by troops from Ethiopia during a large scale invasion in late 2006. The Battle of Deynile took place between Burundian troops in AMISOM against al-Shabaab in the Dayniile neighborhood of the Somali capital of Mogadishu, where Burundian troops launched a failed offensive on the neighborhood. Westgate Shopping Mall Attack
On 21 September 2013, four masked gunmen attacked the Westgate shopping mall, an upmarket mall in Nairobi, Kenya. There are conflicting reports about the number killed in the attack, since part of the mall collapsed due to a fire that started during the siege.
