Magadan Oblast
Magadan Oblast is a federal subjects of Russia, federal subject (an oblast) of Russia. It is geographically located in the Russian Far East, Far East region of the country, and is administratively part of the Far Eastern Federal District. Magadan Oblast has a population of 136,085 (Russian Census (2021), 2021 Census), making it the least populated oblast and the third-least populated federal subject in Russia. Magadan is the largest types of inhabited localities in Russia, city and the administrative center, capital of Magadan Oblast with the majority of the oblast's inhabitants living in the city itself. The coastline has a less severe climate than the interiors, although both are very cold for its latitude. It borders Chukotka Autonomous Okrug in the north, Kamchatka Krai in the east, Khabarovsk Krai in the south and the Sakha Republic in the west. Dukat () is an urban locality (an urban-type settlement) in the Omsukchansky District of Magadan Oblast, Russia, located north of Magadan. Population: History In the mid of the 1960s, geologists from Omsukchan discovered a rich ore deposit of silver; and named the settlement of Dukat, founded in 1968, after the ducat, an old trade coin used in Europe. The status of urban-type settlement was assigned by the decision of the Magadan Regional Executive Committee of February 19, 1976. Geography Dukat is located in a valley between two mountains of the Omsukchan Range, Kolyma Highlands, 27 km west of Omsukchan, the raion's seat and the nearest populated place. Myaundzha () is an urban locality (an urban-type settlement) in Susumansky District of Magadan Oblast, Russia, located in the Kolyma Mountains, on the right bank of the Myaundzha River (a part of the Ayan-Yuryakh River system), about north-northwest of Magadan, the administrative center of the oblast. Population: History It was founded in 1950 in conjunction with the construction of the coal-fired Arkagalinskaya thermal power station, which began operation in 1955. Kadykchan (; ) is a depopulated urban locality (a work settlement) in Susumansky District of Magadan Oblast, Russia. It is located in the Upper Kolyma Highlands, in the basin of the Ayan-Yuryakh River, northwest of Susuman, the administrative center of the district.
