Administrative Divisions Of Crimea
The Crimean Peninsula is a disputed area which as a result of the annexation of Crimea by the Russian Federation is controlled and recognized by Russia as the Republic of Crimea (Russia), Republic of Crimea, a federal subjects of Russia, federal subject of Russia. At the same time, Ukraine and most UN countries around the world recognize the territory as the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, a part of Ukraine. The Republic of Crimea (Russia), Republic of Crimea continues to use the administrative divisions of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and is further divided into 14 districts (''raions'') and 11 city municipalities, officially known as ''territories governed by city councils''. Komsomolske, Crimea
Komsomolske (; ), also known as Bakachyk-Kyiat (, ) is an urban-type settlement located in Simferopol Municipality, Crimea. It has a population of History Komsomolske was founded in 1956. It received urban-type settlement status in 1993. In 2016, as part of decommunization in Ukraine, Komsomolske was designated to be renamed to ''Bakachyk-Kyiat'', which is a Ukrainian transliteration of the town's name in the language of the Crimean Tatars who are indigenous to Crimea. However, since Crimea has been occupied by Russia, the law enacting the renaming did not come into effect. It was scheduled to come into effect when Ukrainian control of Crimea was re-established. In 2023, this clause was amended to remove the qualifier, instead making the new name official immediately. Demographics As of the 2001 Ukrainian census, Komsomolske had a population of 4,271 people, who mostly self-reported their ethnic background as Russians and Ukrainians. Koktebel
Koktebel ( Ukrainian and , , in 1945–1992 known as ''Planerskoye'', ) is an urban-type settlement and one of the most popular resort townlets in southeastern Crimea. Koktebel is situated on the shore of the Black Sea about halfway between Feodosia and Sudak and is subordinated to the Feodosia Municipality. Population: History It is best known for its literary associations. The Russian poet Maximilian Voloshin made it his residence, where he entertained many distinguished guests, including Marina Tsvetayeva, Osip Mandelshtam, and Andrey Bely (who died there). They all wrote remarkable poems in Koktebel. Another prominent literary resident of Koktebel was Ilya Ehrenburg who lived there circa 1919 while escaping from anti-Semitic riots in Kiev. Feodosia (, ''Feodosiia, Teodosiia''; , ''Feodosiya''), also called in English Theodosia (from ), is a city on the Crimean coast of the Black Sea. Feodosia serves as the administrative center of Feodosia Municipality, one of the regions into which Crimea is divided. Dzhankoi
Dzhankoi or Jankoy is a city of regional significance in the northern part of Crimea, internationally recognized as part of Ukraine, but since 2014 occupied by Russia. It also serves as administrative centre of Dzhankoi Raion although it is not a part of the raion (district). Population: The city has various industries, which produce automobiles, reinforced concrete, fabric, meat, and other products. Dzhankoi also has professional technical schools. Armiansk
Armiansk ( ; ; ; ) is a city of regional significance in the northern Crimean peninsula. The status of Crimea has been disputed by Ukraine and Russia since February 2014. Armiansk is located on the Isthmus of Perekop and serves as the administrative center of the Armiansk Municipality. Population: History At the beginning of the 18th century Armenians and Greeks who had come from the nearby city of Or Qapı (present-day Perekop) founded Armiansk. The first name of the town was Ermeni Bazar ( Crimean Tatar for the "Armenian market"). In 1860 it had a population of 5,450. In 1921 it was renamed Armiansk. During World War II, the German occupiers operated a subcamp of the Dulag 123 prisoner-of-war camp in the town.
