Active Phased Array Radar
Active Phased Array Radar (APAR) is a shipborne active electronically scanned array multifunction 3D radar (MFR) developed and manufactured by Thales Nederland. The radar receiver modules are developed and built in the US by the Sanmina Corporation. Characteristics APAR has four fixed (i.e., non-rotating) sensor arrays (faces), fixed on a pyramidal structure. The F124 ''Sachsen'' class is a German Navy's class of air-defense frigates. The design of the hull is based on that of the F123 but with enhanced stealth technology, stealth features designed to deceive an opponent's radar and acoustic sensors. The S1850M is a long-range radar with a digital antenna array for wide area search in elevation. The S1850M is manufactured by Thales and BAE Systems Integrated System Technologies (formerly AMS UK). A vertical launching system (VLS) is an advanced system for holding and firing missiles on mobile naval platforms, such as surface ships and submarines. Each vertical launch system consists of a number of ''cells'', which can hold one or more missiles ready for firing. Typically, each cell can hold a number of different types of missiles, allowing the ship flexibility to load the best set for any given mission. Further, when new missiles are developed, they are typically fitted to the existing vertical launch systems of that nation, allowing existing ships to use new types of missiles without expensive rework.
