The Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) is the Public broadcasting, national broadcaster of Australia. It is principally funded by direct grants from the Australian Government and is administered by ABC Board, a government-appointed board. The ABC is a state ownership, publicly-owned body that is politically independent and fully accountable, with its charter enshrined in legislation, the ''Australian Broadcasting Corporation Act 1983''. ABC Commercial, a profit-making division of the corporation, also helps to generate funding for content provision. ABC Radio and Regional Content, later ABC Radio, was the division of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation responsible for radio output and regional content. Origins The first public broadcasting, public radio station in Australia opened in ABC Radio Sydney, Sydney at 8:00pm on 23 November 1923 under the call sign ABC Radio Sydney, 2SB. Other stations in ABC Radio Melbourne, Melbourne, ABC Radio Brisbane, Brisbane, ABC Radio Adelaide, Adelaide, ABC Radio Perth, Perth and ABC Radio Hobart, Hobart followed. ABC iview is a video on demand and catch-up TV service run by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. Currently iview video content can only be viewed by users in Australia. As of 2016, ABC iview attracts around 50 million plays monthly and accounts for around half of the total time streamed by Australian TV video services. David Anderson (media Executive)
David Newton Anderson (born 1970 or 1971) is an Australian media executive. In May 2019, he commenced a five-year term as the managing director of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. Early and personal life After his parents divorced when he was two years old, he was raised by his mother while they were both living in a small unit in the Adelaide suburb of Seaton. When his mother remarried, Anderson and his mother relocated to his stepfather's hobby farm in the Mount Lofty Ranges in February 1983 when Anderson was aged 12, just prior to the Ash Wednesday bushfires. After his mother divorced his stepfather five years later, she and Anderson relocated from Adelaide to Melbourne so she could be closer to her sister.
