Archipelago
An archipelago ( ), sometimes called an island group or island chain, is a chain, cluster, or collection of islands, or sometimes a sea containing a small number of scattered islands. Examples of archipelagos include: the Indonesian Archipelago, the Aleutian Islands, the Lakshadweep Islands, the Galápagos Islands, the Japanese archipelago, the Philippine Archipelago, the Maldives, the Balearic Islands, the Åland Islands, The Bahamas, the Aegean Islands, the Hawaiian Islands, the Canary Islands, Malta, the Azores, the Canadian Arctic Archipelago, the British Isles, the islands of the Archipelago Sea, and Shetland. Bjorne Islands
Bjorne Islands, da, Bjørne Øer; kl, Nannut Qeqertaat) meaning 'Bear Islands', is an island group in the Scoresby Sound, NE Greenland. The islands are uninhabited. Administratively they belong to the Sermersooq municipality. History This island group was named by Carl Ryder in the course of his 1891–92 East Greenland Expedition, because a bear was shot while the islands were being surveyed on 4 September 1891. Individual islands were not assigned names, but in 1934 they were numbered I to XI following the first survey carried out by Eduard Wenk and Helge Backlund. Members of the 1934 surveying group climbed parts of the spectacular ridges of islands VI and IX (''Första Nålbrevet'' and ''Sista Nålbrevet''). Further climbs were reported in 1978 by an expedition of the British Army. Finlayson Islands
The Finlayson Islands are a string of Canadian arctic islands in Nunavut, Canada. The group lies in Dease Strait, approximately from Cape Alexander, south of Victoria Island and north of the mainland's Kent Peninsula. The community of Cambridge Bay is approximately to the east. An early survey was made by Sir Richard Collinson on board the ''Enterprise'' during his search for Sir John Franklin's lost expedition. Collinson noted the islands to be a basalt ridge running south/southeast. The largest measures long by wide. Digges Islands
The Digges Islands (Inuit: ''Saaqqayaaq-Qikirtasiit'') are members of the Arctic Archipelago in the territory of Nunavut. The two islands, West Digges and East Digges, are located in Digges Sound, an arm of Hudson Bay, where the strong currents of the bay meet Hudson Strait. The hamlet of Ivujivik, on the Ungava Peninsula, is south of the islands. East Digges Island is closer to the northern tip of the Ungava Peninsula than West Digges. Mansel Island is to the southwest, while Nottingham Island is to the north. The islands' rocky cliffs topography is ideal for seabirds; thick-billed murre colonies are abundant. Clarence Islands
The Clarence Islands are a Canadian Arctic island group in the Nunavut Territory. The islands lie in the James Ross Strait, east of Cape Felix, off the northeast coast of King William Island. They are about west of Kent Bay on the Boothia Peninsula, and about northwest of the Tennent Islands.
