Zigua People
The Zigua or in some sources Zigula (''Wazigua'' in Swahili language, Swahili) are a Bantu peoples, Bantu Matrilineality, matrilineal ethnic and linguistic people inhabiting the southwestern Tanga Region and northern Pwani Region of Tanzania. In Tanga Region they are the majority in Handeni District and northern Kilindi District and also are a historically significant population south of the Pangani River in Pangani District. They speak the Zigula language. In 1993, the Zigua population was estimated to number 355,000 people, today they number 631,000 people. The Zigua are considered to be the parent tribe of the Shambaa people, and the Bondei people which today all live in north-eastern Tanzania. Kilindi District
Kilindi is one of eleven administrative districts of Tanga Region in Tanzania. The District covers an area of . It is bordered to the east by the Handeni District and Handeni Town Council, to the south west by the Kiteto District and north west by the Simanjiro District of Manyara Region. Kilindi District is bordered to the south by Gairo District and Kilosa District of Morogoro Region. The district created from Handeni, Handeni District in 2002. The district seat (capital) is the town of Songe. The district is home to Nguu Mountains. According to the 2022 census, the district has a total population of 398,391. Kaguru People
The Kaguru also known as Kagulu, Megi , Wetumba, Solwa, Mangaheri (''Wakaguru'', in Swahili) are a Bantu ethnic group from northern Morogoro Region of Tanzania specifically indegineous to Gairo District, Mvomero District and Kilosa District of Morogoro Region in Tanzania. They are bordered to the east by the Ngulu people, to the southeast by the Luguru, to the west by the Gogo of Dodoma, and to the south by the Sagara. They are recognized as one of the four Matrilineal peoples of eastern Tanzania, along with the Zaramo, Luguru, Kutu, Kwere, Zigula, Vidunda, Sagara, and Ngulu. Kimweri Ye Nyumbai
Kimweri ya Nyumbai or Shekulwavu Kimweri ya Nyumabi (c. 1790s – 1862), also known as (Simbe Mwene), (''Simbe Mwene Shekulwavu Kimweri ya Nyumbai'' in Shambala language, Shambaa), (''Mfalme Kimweri'', in Swahili language, Swahili) was the King of the Shambaa people in the Shambaa Kingdom of the Usambara Mountains in what is now Tanga Region of Tanzania between around 1815 and 1862. Under his rule the kingdom reached its greatest extent. However, disruptions caused by the introduction of firearms and the slave trade caused the kingdom to fall apart after his death. Mbegha
Mbegha (c. 1700s – c.1750s), also known as Simbe Mwene, (''Mwene Mbegha'' in Shambaa), (''Mfalme Mbegha'', in Swahili) was the first king also known the "Lion King" ( ''Simba Mwene'' in Kisambaa) of the Shambaa people of Shambaa Kingdom, in modern-day western Tanga Region in the Usambara Mountains of Tanzania. King Mbegha lived during the first half of the 18th century after his expulsion from the Nguru Mountains. While his existence is undisputed among historians, his biography is mainly based on oral traditions. Numerous legends have made him a mythic hero. Bondei People
The Bondei People (Swahili: ''Wabondei'') are a Bantu ethnic group based in Muheza District and Pangani District of eastern Tanga Region in Tanzania. Shambaa People
The Shambaa people, also called the Sambaa, Shambala, Sambala or Sambara (''Wasambaa'', in Swahili language, Swahili), are an ethnic group. The Sambaa people are related to the bondei people. Their ancestral home is on the Usambara Mountains of Lushoto District, Korogwe District, Tanga, Korogwe District and Bumbuli District. Pangani River
The Pangani River (''Mto Pangani'', in Swahili language, Swahili), (also called Luffu and Jipe Ruvu, especially in older sources, and probably once called Rhaptus) is a major river of northeastern Tanzania. It has two main sources: the Ruvu Jipe River, Ruvu, which rises as River Lumi, Tanzania, Lumi at Kilimanjaro, passes through Lake Jipe, and empties into the Nyumba ya Mungu Reservoir, and the Kikuletwa River, coming from the west and mainly fed by rivers of Mount Meru (Tanzania), Mount Meru in Arusha Region, which also enters into the Nyumba ya Mungu Reservoir in Kilimanjaro Region. Handeni District
Handeni District is one of the 11 districts of Tanga Region in Tanzania. The District covers an area of . It is bordered to the west by the Kilindi District and the Handeni Urban District, to the north by the Korogwe District, to the east by the Pangani District, and to the south by the Pwani Region. In 2002 Kilindi District was formed out of the district. The administrative capital of the district is Mkata town. Matrilineality
Matrilineality, at times called matriliny, is the tracing of kinship through the female line. It may also correlate with a social system in which people identify with their matriline, their mother's lineage, and which can involve the inheritance of property and titles. A matriline is a line of descent from a female ancestor to a descendant of either gender in which the individuals in all intervening generations are mothers.
